Hello,

I have a strange problem. One of my PCs won't boot from a bootable Ghost GDisk CD that I created nor from a bootable Ghost recover DVD that I created. However, these discs will boot on my other 3 PCs. The PC where it doesn't work will however boot from my XP CD and my Acronis boot CD (which I created). The problem PC though will boot from my Ghost floppy bootable.
I don't understand why this is the case! As I said, the bootable discs I have created work on all my other machines, so I know I have made no errors in the creation process. I have tried everything that I can think of. I have checked the BIOS. Everything seems OK there (but as I said the XP discs boots and so does the Acronis disk).
In particular I wanted to boot from my Ghost GDisk so that it would wipe my drive clean. What I have also done is make a bootable XP Floppies, boot up with those then in DOS find the drive where my G disk is (for example-E: > Dir > which finds the contents I see the GDISK.EXE file > type GDisk.EXE> but it tells me that it is an invalid command)

When I have tried to boot with the bootable GDISK CD it just hangs on start up and nothing happens. I have tries to make a bootable usb key too but that didn't work either. It seems my BIOS doesn't allow booting from USB.

This problem is driving me nuts!!! I hope I have made clear what the problem is and that someone out there can offer some help. As I said, these discs work on all my other PCs.

Could I solve the problem by changing the DVD drive? Though that seems drastic and as I said it boots my XP disk and Acronis disk.

Thanks in advance for your help!

P.S.

When I boot up in DOS have I typed the correct command?

Hello again,

I have decided that maybe a firmware upgrade will solve the problem. Before I do a firmware update of my DVD drive I just want to make sure I do it properly before attempting it, so I hope someone out there can explain it to me as I can't anywhere on the net any information on how.
I have managed to find an updated firmware update and unzipped it to a floppy. I have checked it is the correct one for my particular drive with a utility called NeroInfo Tool, which I got from the following site:

http://www.iomagic.com/Firmware/NeroInf ... otool.html

Now I know that you should avoid doing firmware upgrades unless absolutely necessary, but because my DVD drive won't boot certain bootable DVDs (that work on other PCs), maybe a firmware upgrade will help.

Am I supposed to just double click the file I downloaded? There is no information on how I do this on the manufacturer's site.

Thanks again in advance for your help.

Just start off by saying what type of computer is causing the problem.I don't quite see how anyone can help without technical details.
