What I am wondering is, where these settings are stored: the registry or the BIOS? My mobo's BIOS has only one global PCI Latency setting.

Sorry, I have no idea! I haven't tried the app yet (I don't have click/pop problems) but I have seen others have good results with it. I may give it a try sometime to see if it results in a performance boost, but I just don't have time at the moment :/

Well there are two applications, one runs a global test on your PC and you have to kinda figure out where the performance bottlenecks are. The second application, I like its name Ulysses , allows you to look at the PCI Latency settings on all devices that use one and modify those settings accordingly.

I've finally gotten around to testing these tools, and I have to say they do a damn good job. I have an Asus P4PE-based system which I was just using for internet and misc duties. I recently decided to use it for 2 of my Pulsar cards - to my dismay I was getting PCI overloads in SFP while using the firewire and wireless internet. I ran the tool and set all other PCI devices to PCI Latency 96 - the same as the Pulsars. No more PCI overloads! The author does a version for $10 which sets the values on every bootup. I really recommend it!

[edit] I should add that I also set the graphics card to PCI Latency 96 (it was 256 before!).

On a sidenote - I discovered that Pulsar and Pulsar2 have different PCI Latency values - Pulsar has 128, while Pulsar2 has 96. Slightly odd I thought.. however the system is working fine so no real worries.

u use?

I set everything which had higher PCI latency value to the same or less than the Pulsar2 - wireless 64, AGP 96, Gigabit ethernet 96, etc. I'm sure I'll be tinkering with it as I start using my system a bit more.. I'll try and remember to report back any further findings.

you might want to check it with a low level scope project.
for comparison:
i have an absolute max of 28µs

ok,ok...
when moving a window it´s 29µ
but it depends on what scope-project your running
