I´m going to finally start using Drive Image 2002, instead on fthe bundled RestoreIt Professional given by the MSI video Card...

I guess there are better and worse ways of building images, things you should never do, some others you should always do. If you are an experienced user of Drive Image and want to tell your experience, please do.

I create the Rescue Diskettes and work with these. To disable the Iomega drivers open autoexec.bat and write REM at the beginning of the line with DRIVERSGUEST. To disable the SCSI search do same for the line with DRIVERSLCDRSCSI.
Creating the image: Compression is ok. Use it to fit the size for the CD you want to burn.
One important thing to have a look at:
Case Restoring partitions from partitions:
last dialog "Ready to go":
Open Advanced options and uncheck 'Hide partitions after restore'.
That's it.

I always make the image file on a 2nd partition first, then burn to CD later. Saves messing around in DOS with CD drivers etc.

Remember to pay attention to the spanning option or whatever it's called (to split the image into chunks which are a convenient size to fit on CD).

The process of creating an Image is in fact very easy. Nevertheless I´m having trouble creating one. There is an error #91 coming up when the computer restarts itself for actually creating the image.

It says: Error 91 Disk Manager has been detected on drive 2

I´ve disconected the drive 2 just to try what was going on, and then the message came to be exactly the same, but naming drive 1.

I went to PowerQuest support and they said:

If you no longer need to use Disk Manager on your hard drive, you can fix Error 91 by removing the Disk Manager signature from the Master Boot Record (MBR).

What is this Disk Manager and how do I know if I still need it or not? Is it part of Windows?

It seems that in every step I have something to fix...

I have searched for Disk Managger in my C drive, but there is not such a program.

Nevertheless, there is not enough information for me to proceed, cos I don´t know if I actually need this Disk Manager or not.

I have had personaly a bad experience with this software, sorry... I don´t want to keep using it anymore...

I have cheged it for TrueImage, and it´s cheaper... My first image was programed in less than 1 minut, the interface is simpler and more direct than Drive Image's one.

ADN... which makes me feel quite anoyed is the strange fact that Drive Image killed my floppy drive... Don´t ask me how, I can´t really tell, all I can say is that using it, misteriously and despite that the floppy drive was working properly, it stoped working after using it with Drive Image software... Well, yes, perhaps it´s the drive itself... I can´t tell, but...

There were many error boots with the "error #91" and if I remember well, the 87 too.

Please, don´t feel betrayed because you have strongly recomended me Drive Image and I´m not using it... the important thing is that you have lead me to know what I need, and this is very much apreciated

By the way, I have done a research and there are many problems with the new version of Drive Image, the 7 bone. Do not upgrade untill the bugs are fixed. Images are the bone of your disaster-recovery, you can´t improvise with it.

I really like the interface of TrueImage, I did not even need to read the paper manual, nor the online one, it´s so simple that a child would be able to do an image in just one minute. I found out this was the best, simply because it´s the only one for the moment that does everything withihn Windows, without needing to go to DOS or Caldera DOS. Everything is done in DOS. Much confortable in fact, and for your eyes too...

When ready, I pressed the "Enter" key, and relaxed till the image was created, which took about 12 minutes for 7.5 GBs. Rather fast. I have decided to do it onto the HD itself, but has chosen to split it in as many 700Mb as needed, for me to take it into CDs later, if I need to. The image or mirroir was reduced at 1.35 GBs in zise. YOu have 9 options of compression, I mean, you can compress from 0 to 9, and the space is reduced to about 40% choosing the parameter 9.

When I tried to go back to see the actual just created image, it was as simple as opening the program again, choosing the 3th option and gettin to the image. Amazing! The image was there, perfectly identical and ready to be used!

All in all, a fantastic working product.

I´m very happy wtih it, and will keep Acronis TrueImage 2002.

Thanks guys, for your answers, I hope this will help many to decide for their most convinient software. I would recomende of course, TrueImage, from Acronis, a fantastic and cheaper software.

DI5 is really very good. I hope they get this fixed.
Well then:
If you deinstalled Disk Manager you'll not need it.
I assume Disk Manager was installed at your Primary Master Drive.
Start with a bootable floppy. Be sure to have fdisk.exe added. Run the 'FDISK /CMBR 1' command. Remove floppy and reboot.
If XP does not start insert your XP cd and start repair mode (just let it go till the screen comes that asks for "do you want a new install?" OR "update existing?" OR "repair existing?" - choose repair). After you'll have typed your admin password type 'fixmbr'. To reboot type 'exit'.
That should do it.

glad you finally found a working solution.. there are many programs around now which do exactly the same thing, often for very competitive prices... DI and Ghost were the innovators in this field, and it is often the case that the innovators sit back, get fat and allow the new competitors to come through and deliver a better product.. seems that this has happened in this case.

Incidentally, I recently tried out Ghost 2003 and it seems very nice too, much more XP-friendly than previous versions.

Yes, in fact there are many people telling Norton Ghost 2003 is a very reliable piece of software, but everybody agrees that it´s very slow and you have to still get into DOS.

I´ve read several reviews on it and they call it "The Dinosaur", sorry for the spelling...

I had a problem during installation, and so could easily come back to my fresh install of XP...
