I'm not sure if something like this exists already but Ive been thinking of this one for a while. Take for instance programs like After Effects, you can remove certain colors from video footage & replace them with another layer(ie blue screen effects). Since color is measured in frequecies I can see this being possible. I suppose you could look at it as a frequency dependent gate where instead of a sidechain input the gate is being triggered by a predetermined frequency range in the primary signal & replacing it with the same frequency range from a secondary signal. Also have the amplitude of the predetermined freq range regulate that of the secondary signal. Maybe even have it set up to where you can select different frq ranges for both signal. Who knows, maybe this could provide some interesting results on anything from drum loops to synth pads.

I've figured out way to do this in a basic way through patching. I'm working on a project to post that will illustrate how to do it.

After testing a few things, I realised that we already have a device that does this. It's called a vododer(Doh!!). It was pretty fun figuring it out though. Building a one band vocoder took quite a few devices. A vocoder doesn't do exactly what I intended but the results sounded the same.
