i really like the idea of having a frequency tracking EQ module: something similar to the standard SFP EQ, but with a MIDI in and the possibility to "move" the peak of the band according to the note played according to a "center note"
for example: i place a band at 440 HZ. then, if i play the A3 the band stays at 440HZ, but when i play A4 the peak moves to 880HZ, following the scale that i'm playing.
it may seem something weird... but i imagine a lot of possibility for a module like this.
and maybe also a velocity sensitivity for the EQ gain...

Doesn't sound wierd at all - sounds bloody sensible !

I'm sure there are some other modules that could benefit from that too . . .

the main application of a filter of this kind was in the EmU morpheus and ultra proteus, the Z-Plane filter

other uses being . . . well, I think a frequency-responding RESONATOR would be fantastically good !

absolutely right!! even the CW resonator (from the basic SFP pack) could benefit tremendously from a frequency tracking midi input and a velocity modulation... i find that module pretty useless without them!
so, if CW or someone else is listening....

uhh, i was about to update my sf-ModEq.... with a key follower..... more easy to say than to do because i don't intend to make it do just what you describe (at least i try) so be patient .... in the same time, i'm fed up of making free stuff.... (just a grump)

well, it works fine for an effect but it's not precise. pretty cool though. i'll see if it's worth releasing...

Christ Spacef - don't be worried about making free stuff. Depending on how hard this is to make (give us a sob story !) I'm very happy to pay (small amounts of - sorry I'm still a student !) money. If its a little device, why not sell it for 10/20 euros - that's a very small amount of money to each of us, but at least you'll be getting something in return for your (much appreciated) hard work and dedication.

heh, last time I tried converting MIDI note numbers to frequencies in Mod 2, I ended up giving up cuz there's no way to do the conversion. The modular system needs some serious math modules to do this kind of stuff. I figured out the equation and all, but can't implement it. And not surprisingly, spacef pointed out some hints to me.

In max/MSP, there's a module called mtof. (midi to frequency) Easy beyond belief. I guess an effect like this could be useful... especially in a vocoder patch. (that's what I tried to do)

you can "almost" do that in DP (midi to frequency), it's a bit tricky, and require a slight bit of black magic, but it works fine (but not precise as to give A=440 , a1=880 etc... but it's really a cool effect that I just made. Packing it to make it useable under SFP is hell. I'll make a small device to show that it's possible to do it SFP. But not right now as i'm buzy testing other things.... (may be one day i'll also release my "space echo" model which is better and better everyday and can sound just as the original roland (or at least, what you hear on reggae/dub records) . see you.
