Hello All,
I'm back--still enjoying my embedded Roland VS-2480 Technology but haven't really played my synths alot. I miss Pulsar for that. I'm thinking about just splurging for a softsynth but convince me otherwise dudes.
What's the recommended Chipset configuration. Still stay away from anything and have they worked out the bugs? I hated 3.1 when it came out and dumped my system cause it never worked on my P4 system and I was $10k up-side-down. I've not recovered from that but will soon. Entice me.

well creamware recommend intel 850 or 850e chipset.
i'm on 850 and obviously i agree.
rambus is a bit more expensive but in my experience rock solid.
any asus or msi motherboard with i850 should do it.
imho of course.

the 845 chipset works great as well and so does the nforce.i have a p4 and it runs great.

Shout I stay away from VIA?
How about Dual Chip MOBOs? Any suggestions?
Is Pulsar Mac Friendly yet?
Or should I use my Mac for Digital Performer and just get a PC for Gigastudio, Reason and the like?

yes, stay a w a y from VIA!
some argue that there's nothing wrong with VIA at all but there's been way too many users, including two of my friends, who had nothing but crappy experiences from that chipset.
i assume you want some headroom in terms of performance and this can NOT be achieved with VIA.period.
I think the XTC mode is not yet compatible with mac osX. donno really but i'm sure others here can fill you in.

No XTC on Mac, indeed.
Mac users are patientl mostly, but it's a shame really.

There is no SFP OS X support, yet. CW plans to prepare it this summer but, let's face it, they never keep promises so we have to expect it (if good winds will blow) in the middle of Autumn. If your Digital Performer Mac is still working on 9.x then go for SFP without any question! The MIDI drivers are OMS compatible so you should be able to use Free Midi in compatibility mode with CW cards. I don't recommend you use CW's midi i/o though as they work so so with Macs (due to poor quality midi drivers) but audio works perfect!
