Adobe takes over Cool Edit

Syntrillium announced today (16 may) that it has reached an agreement to sell its technology assets to Adobe Systems Incorporated.

i always wished there would be a sound software with an adobe UI !!!

lets hope adobe can fix cooledits interface better

It's pretty bad news actually. With Adobe's actual atitude towards intelectual property, these products will probably end up partially crippled with digital rights management crap.

I didn't think anyone would like this news. I'm really pissed off about it.

I think Adobe's UIs are attrocious and I always thought that Cool Edit 2000 had a fantastic UI - better than any other Audio Editor I've used.

And with Adobe probably only interested in the power application I can say goodbye to upgrades to Cool Edit 2000 forever I guess.

Sad, sad news.

Both Cool Edit 2000 and Cool Edit Pro 2.1
are very "cheap" programs in relation to what i found on Adobes site...no cheap things there.
And what about the free loops (for use with Cool Edit Pro) - Anyone think Adobe will expand the free loop assortment?
....but on the other hand they got Premier with dolby 5.1 option.
I simply love CEP, and i hope it will continue.......arela

The only Adobe product with a good UI is After Effects IMO, and even that has problems (although it's power is amazing).
Photoshop is ok, but could really do with implementing a load of functions from After Effects. Premiere is just plain atrocious, I just wish I had a decent alternative to cut my video's with.

King of Snake I strongly suggest you have a look at Vegas 4 from Sonic Foundry for video editing. If you know how to use Acid then you will immediately be able to edit and hack video.

Even if you don't know Acid, Vegas is still way faster and easier than Premiere and has all the features.

And it also doubles as a multitrack audio editor - it has all the functions of Acid - just called different things !

I had to use Premiere at work for a short time - yech!

We have seen many of those in these three last years… And to all of us, much important than this, like Steinberg and Logic! Big fishes are eating pitiless little ones… They are marking the trend. Only hope Creamware is never bought by any big company, or there… WE are going to be the little fish!

imho it's due to the massive spread of the cracked Pro version. I never happened to see a server or a collection without it - in my pre SFP days

On the other hand it has become regular practice NOT to develope inhouse anymore, but to aquire a finished product, together with the company, if necessary.
This tells the real story about quality of software developement in large companies...

This is a very bad time to sell a company, even the worst for a long long time. You wouldn't if you weren't forced to. The past 12 months have wiped away almost all independant MI software company above a certain size. Sure, most products will continue to exist, but the pioneering time of music software development seems definitely over. I consider that BAD news.

Steinberg
Emagic
Syntrillium
Sonic Foundry
Nemesis
Soundscape
SEK'D
Alesis
Mackie
etc etc

Who's left in the MI SW segment at all?
Cakewalk
MOTU (they already escaped into hardware)
Native Instruments
Ableton
Magix
us, CreamWare
forgot anyone?
(the last four all being German companies...)

I'm sure this list will shrink further before too long. I'm happy we positioned CreamWare not to be entirely depandant on one market. All other remaining companies are. Today I'm glad we are on a multi-market technology approach for some time now.

I have highest respect for anyone still entering the technology segment of the MI these days. It's a bad market we all face. I am with all visionary folks like my dear friend Axel Hartmann (with his Neuron synth) who are brave enough to risk their ass and work incredibly hard for innovation and their ideals, these days. If you can afford a Neuron, buy it, you'll love the concept.

I don´t know if I like to say this but I´am a little proud to live in the country where electronic music was born and where the top products for electronic music comes from.
Keep up the fight against all problems you face in that hard times. The world has a great respect on german electronic music and products.
I wish I could buy the Neuron it is a great idea and concept that continuous the way of the crazy germans,hehe.

Sek`d hasn´t been sold ...they simply went broke but it was only a delivery center. They marketed samplitude and marian.

The developers of samplitude and sequoia always have been in charge for other magix products as well. But since there have been problems in marketing the professional line they decided to outsource it by selling the name Sekd Studio für Elektronische Klangerzeugung Dresden...an guess what...the same developpers are still here at work and under GERMAN licence

But the problem is...nobody wants to make music when he could do video...It`s probably an idea for a remake of the song video killed the radio star

Almost everyone listens to music but clearly there is more money put into video and movies. I would like to see more of a marriage between the two. The point of a soundtrack is to enhance the moving images and set a mood. Soundtrack Composers are like second class citizens when compared to the famous actors, directors and producers. probably because people who make movies use formulas based on what has been done before rather than forge ahead as they really ought to be doing.
