It is the Hotfix Q811493. I uninstalled, now runs better. I ignored warnings that said other hotfixes could have trouble. Not recommended for your internet security, but very much for the audio XP.

I agree. I read about this somewhere (here or on the SONAR forums), and it does work better (uninstalling the hotfix).

Nothing "broke" for me either when I uninstalled - and now everything loads faster.

M$ have said they'll be a fix for this (someday).....

The problem was just that programs took a little longer to load - it had nothing to do with audio.

That problem's been fixed now. I re-installed the patch from windowsupdate.com over the weekend and it works fine now...
