i once had a free device that chopped up an incoming audio signal in anything from 1/2 to 1/32 based on any given tempo. like a tremolo. i'm not talking about a midi controlled device but rather tempo controlled.
is there any vst or directX compatible device out there that can do this?

maybe one of the destroyFX things is what you're after. i think 'skidder'.
or one of the scuzzphut plugs...

you the man borg!!
seems like the VST Plugin - Scuzzphut5
will do the trick! the other ones look pretty interesting too.
btw, the one i was originally looking for was a dx plug called "gappa!" but it doesn't seem to work in logic.

from the coldcut crew

it's intended for ableton live use, but also works in cubase.

it is fun!!!

Or just run the sound through a Modular device with a bpm-synced lfo on the amplitude ?

Hmmm. Maybe I should make one ?

yes Spirit!
the thought of modular aslo crossed my mind but i'm SO lost in them "magic boxes".
if you do consider making such a module, please consider a tempo based chopper with 16 buttons (MDS-8 ?) that can open the sound at any given pattern. some parameters for adjusting 1st attack on every "open" soundcell as well as possibility to set decay would also be useful.

sure hope you get your hands dirty.
thanks in advance!
