Well, most of them. If the 3rd party device you're talking about is an effect, you can use the multiFX insert in XTC and insert your 3rd party device in there. But for synth, there is no way around.

Unforunately, non-XTC effects do not save and reload consistently like this i.e. you save and close your Cubase/Logic project, and reopen... often your FX settings are hosed
