Hello to everybody!

I have just ordered my new DAW and I am expecting it to come in this week! Before I install WIN XP Home, I would like you to enlighten me as far as ACPI and NTFS are concerned. I know these issues have been raised thousands of times, but once more wont harm, will it?
My new DAW:
P4 2.4GHz 512k 533FSB
Asus P4T533-C
2x512MB RDRAM PC800
40GB IBM 120GXP (OS files)
120GB IBM 120GXP (dedicated to audio)
Teac CDRW
Matrox G550
Pulsar 1 (when I have the money I ll add an SRB)
Questions
1) ACPI or standard PC? Which is more stable? Which performs best?
2) For the OS hard disk should I go for NTFS or FAT32? (40GB)
3) Same question as the previous one, regarding the Audio disk (120GB)
4) What cluster size for each disk.
Take into account that I will use this PC only for audio. No net surfing, no video editing, no dual-booting for Win98.

My answers to the above questions to the best of my knowledge (or should I say to my ignorance?) are:
1) standard PC
2)NTFS for OS
3) FAT32 for audio
4) small clusters for the OS disk and large ones for the audio disk

Please let me know what you think. Your views will be highly appreciated

Win XP. NTFS all HDs. Just let the OS install. ACPI is no problem with XP. IRQs are distributed properly. With Win 2K that was a problem that is why Standard P.C. was preferred over ACPI. There are some apps in Services that should be disabled or set to manual. This OS is ROCKING. With what you have there you should not have any problems.

Hello

Thank you for replying!
Djatwork, its nice that you reassure my idea  (¡muchísimas gracias!)
Abre, I still have a kind of phobia with ACPI, especially since my Pulsar 1 was made a long time ago before the appearance of that "technology" (furthermore I am not sure if my Asus supports APIC). But I ll re-think if it is better to format my audio disk (120GB) in NTFS as you suggest.

Thank you

I am talking from what I had experienced previously. I have two drives a 30 GB and a 20 GB. One with the OS was formatted NTFS. The other for audio FAT 32. When accessing the files from the audio drive there would be a delay of a few milisecond. When recording same thing. You press recording, the position pointer delays then suddenly jumps into action. Since formatting both NTFS everything runs smoothly. I am not seeing any BLUESCREEN either. Down with the FLOPPYDRIVE

Hello!

Decisions taken: NTFS all hard disks. Still not sure about ACPI. Since I am not using any other PCI card except from my Creamware cards (Pulsar1, Pulsar2, Pulsar XTC) and since my PC is not a portable one, do I really need ACPI? (My Asus motherboard supports APIC)
Is there any difference in performance when using "ACPI" over a "Standard PC"? Please enlighten me!

Thank you!

P.S. I am still waiting for my DAW to come!...

See the Win2k/XP Tips & Tricks, I explained there about ACPI
I'm quite sure you can leave it enabled on XP!
