Me and my studio partner have been using both PC and Mac. Pulsar on PC and DP with MAS on Mac. Our motu card is fried and in the repair shop so i decided to put the Pulsar in Mac to see how it would work. However, when I use ASIO in my pulsar routing window and then start DP3 and switch to ASIO the processor maxes out. I thought that I would get better performance from ASIO than soundmanager. Soundmanager can still playback the tracks we have w/o stressing the CPU, but when I switch the audio drivers to ASIO Pulsar the CPU goes into overload. Is there something i'm missing here?

What Asio drivers are you using ?
I'm running Logic 5.2 & Nuendo 1.6 just fine with Asio2 24bit on a 933/OS 9.2.2/PulsarII/HD3

Have you done all the Mac tweaks like Virtual Memory off etc? You can find most of the tweaks if you search this forum. Which software version of Pulsar are you using, which Mac OS? I run VST 5.1r1 on G4 OS9.0.4 with Pulsar3.01 and everything is fine. I would recommend OS9.2.2 for SFP3.1a. There are other factors so tell us some more details.

Digital Performer will only run with virtual memory off, so that is covered. I'm using 3.1a and have tried all ASIO drivers. Using OS 9.2 and USB midiexpress by MOTU. Basically what i did was start Pulsar, then Performer, load an old perfomer file that worked under the 2408 audio card, and then goto the audio driver config and pick ASIO/Scope, after clicking OK DP says processor through-put too high either change buffers per sample or bypass all plugins. This doesn't make sense to me b/c soundmanager can handle the old file w/o maxing out processor. Pulsar should be able to, since in itself is doesn't consumer processor, unless it has something to do with OMS, b/c i only want to use the audio side of pulsar and haven't tried configuring OMS with Pulsar yet. Will try more testing when i get back to the studio on Saturday.

Tell us how it goes. It's a good idea to configure OMS even if you're not using it then you can eliminate it from your enquiry. I've always used OMS2.3.8 with no problems but other Mac users swear by 2.3.7. Are you using the correct ASIO modules in your Pulsar project? Does Performer recognise ASIO2?
