Ther's a war between AMD and Pentium. Some say AMD can outperform Pentium's floating point, which is better for us:
Searched forum for more info but still need a bit more.
I would like to update to Sdram P4 board but not sure on chipset to take. 845 looks best but rdram board on 850 looks good.
P4's have just been price slashed due to current chipset competing with AMD.
Who's running sdram board, and which one do you use? Also, how stable is it?
Thx
P4 v AMD
There's pretty much no comparison on the highend chips - P4 is the clear victor. Intel chipsets are also the best in the industry for our work.
I'd say go with one of the newest i845 based solutions or if your budget can stretch to it, check out the newest (and currently ONLY) 32bit RDRAM solution - ASUS P4T533 - requires special 32bit RDRAM but is the fastest system on the planet for CW @ the moment.

Hi there, If I may say so I really would suggest not sticking with SD RAM for a pentium 4 rig. That's like crippling the cpu because the P4 really needs huge amounts of memory bandwith to unpack it's full potential. Like sub says if you can afford it go for an RDRAM based chipset and if you really want to rock sky high then go for the 32 bit RDRAM. Using a P4 with SDRAM is like putting a 900 hp engine in a little nissan sunny
