well, i got the card anyway, i figure if i need to update the motherboard i will (even though creamware support said it should work with my amd751 chipset).

i got everything installed properly in winxp, but when i open sfp, all i get is clicks every few seconds when the samplerate is 44.1k or above. the samplerate window switches between '--' and '44.1k' rapidly, and the mouse icon becomes 'busy' every time it clicks (the system freezes for a split second during each click). the dsp load is not heavy at all, as i'm routing the analog ins to the mixer to analog outs.. that's it, nothing else.

now, when i change the samplerate to 32k, it outputs a signal with no clicks. the analog inputs sound very noisy and distorted, but they're audible. same with a wave source. even if i load the project up with masterverbs and delay effects, it still runs smoothly, although noisily. i get no clicks, and the system doesn't freeze at all. it works fine even at the lowest ulli setting. however, each time i change back to 44.1, i get silence and clicks. i tried the highest ulli setting, no luck.

anyone had this problem before? does this sound like a case of pci problems (indicating my motherboard's chipset sucks), or is this something software related? any help is appreciated, as the card is basically unusable right now :|

thanks,
Mike

Is your XP setup as ACPI or normal PC (hint: is you did not expresly selected normal PC when you installed, it is installed by default like ACPI)?

ACPI is troublesome with older mobos...Maybe that's it!

alright, i switched to 'standard pc' mode.. i uninstalled and reinstalled the hardware and software after i made the change from acpi to standard pc. and that seemed to fix most of the noise and distortion

but i still can't use any samplerate above 44.1  another oddity is that the left channel of my analog in doesn't work.. just gives static, only the right seems to pick up the signal. i checked the connections, everything seems fine.

i still don't have any problem running masterverb or delays, so that mean it's likely _not_ a pci bus problem?

thanks,
mike

Ok, then, what IRQ is your card on?

Creamware suggest irq5...

BTW, you should put your card in a pci slot that is NOT shared...

For example, you can go and check in your BIOS for PCI slot irq assignment, if your card is in slot 5 and you see in bios a row telling Slot 1/5 : ??? (auto or a number) It mean that your pci slot 5 is sharing with pci slot 1, if there is nothing in slot1, that's ok, but if there is something, move the creamware card elsewere.

Hope i help a bit

Had the same problem a while ago, but I haven't got any idea on how it got solved. Did it have to do anything with SFP latency, video reso/bitdepth, ...?
I think it was something silly, but if only my memory wasn't this Emmentaler cheese...

ok!! i uninstalled the hardware again, and re-installed it in a new PCI slot. (i couldn't change the irq in windows for some reason), so now it has irq 5. and i can use 44.1 and 48k now (when i try 96k it tells my my dsp capacity limit has been reached)

now, the only other problem is that on my analog input, it only seems to pick up the right channel. the left channel is just low noise. any ideas?? cables are properly connected, and routing looks fine.

thanks,
mike

Had the same problem with the analog in on my Luna2. I sent it back to the dealer and got a new one...
