Hi,
I have made some modules to control the SFP Mixers and Synth with the StudioMix. There are different modules to control 16 or 24 channel mixers or synth. They all translate the NRPNs of the StudioMix to CC for Pulsar.
Thomann (
http://www.thomann.de ) is currently blowing them out for 99 Euro, so it's a very cheap solution with 9 motorized faders and 18 endless rotary encoders.
I just have to write an installation guide and build some controller presets, then I will upload this to PlanetZ.

Um...what´s wrong with it? It is that cheap that i´m asking myself if this is a misprint!?
You have it already? Tell us about it please! Where´s the ordering form?

Thanks for the info!

Just had a look around and the original retail price was about €1250, so this really is an amazing deal if it's not a mistake.
Cheers,

Hey, this is a nice one!
I will try them!
I read the test in Keyboards 6/99 and they said that it will only work mit cakewalk.
But how about Cubase 5.1/32 or SX.
Did someone have a clue?

"Most of the control surfaces designed for computer mix use have at least attempted to be generic – that is, able to work with any program that understands MIDI commands. By contrast, StudioMix was custom-designed for Cakewalk Professional 8 and Pro Audio 8: its MIDI messages use a combination of System-Exclusive and Non-Registered Parameter Number (NRPN) control data that is understood only by the Cakewalk software"
Looks like it does'nt work.
That's a shame.
Could have been the steal of the century.

Hi,
I found this hotdeal, because some people discussed on the germany keyboards (
http://www.keyboards.de ) forum how to use it with Cubase / Logic. They tried to map the controlles with Locigs environment and a Cubase user has build a tranlator using MIDI OX and both solutions seem to work, but I have not tried them.
Since I wanted to buy a midi controller anyway I have ordered two StudioMix. It still comes with a full Cakewalk Pro Audio 8.0, but I have not installed that yet.
My translation modules output MIDI Continuous Controllers and you can route this output to any MIDI dest in the SFP Environment, so you can use it to control external synth or any sequencer.
For 99 Euro it's way cheaper than any other solution with endless rotary encoders / motorized faders. It doesn't have the same quality as a Logic-Control ( f.e. only 60mm Fader, not touch sensitive ), but for the price there is nothing to complain. The main drawback is that you have no LEDs or display on the unit.
Here is the link to the unit at thomann:

Wow man that looks like a sweet deal but I'm wondering if that really would work with cubase.
If someone has a working setup with those device combined with cubase I'd really like a PM or a reply here as to how to get it working and if there are any problems with such a setup
Thx

Hi Markus (digilogue),
Can you tell me more about your pulsar module that you have developed that can convert the StudioMix NRPNs into normal Continuous Controller signals?
Can you share it with us on this board?
Thanks for your work man!

Thanks for the tip I just ordered mine, what a great price!! I was going to order the sac 2k , at 1600 euro it was a bit pricey, I'll get back with the "learning curve" and results.

Hi,
I've just uploaded the converter module for the StudioMixto the devices area. I've finished two versions to control 16 or 24 mixer channels. Now I will build a module to control some synth and a module to use the transport buttons, stay tuned.

Hi Markus!
Thanks again for your work! When i´ve got mine, i will try to do the same thing for Logic Audio - i think it should be possible, Logic has very powerful transformer modules...

Chris,
Keep me informed on the progress of your work to implement it in Logic. Maby I can help you a little...
Although I have to wait a day or two to get my StudioMix.

I have written a Windows program that maps the NRPN output of the StudioMix to CC messages. It supports multiple mappings, provides visual feedback on the values of the buttons and knobs, and fixes a problem that many StudioMixes have of sending out spurious MIDI data.
It is yours for the asking; just e-mail me and I'll send it to you.
