Pulsar 1 Cards (1.01) - connect to a second computer with Pulsar 1 via ADAT?

hi folks,

always fighting with minimal gear.
Recently i swapped my system disk from a Gigabyte DS3R to a HP Z200.
I would rather had bought a new SSD for it, but money short again (as always)
and SSDs are very expensive at the moment.

That worked, i was so happy!
Then it got evident that the P/S2 on thw Z200 died.
Plus the machine doesnt accept a USB keyboard.

So i bought a "new" Z200 Mainboard.
It works again.

Then i came up with the idea to have another Z200 as a backup.

The idea further developed an i came up with a maybe brilliant idea.

The first Workstation has a Luna 2 and two Pulsar 1.01
The Luna has all the keys and Scope 7

Years a go i bought another Pulsar 1, before i could buy the two others.

So i have a spare Pulsar 1.

As i am on Win XP and will stay there i have the RAM Limit.

So, the idea:

Why not put the spare Pulsar in the new HP Z200?

So i read a little and it seems i could connect the two PCs via ADAT!

I always thought for this kind of things i would need a Sync Board or whatever.
But it could work just like that, right?

Additional Information (in case i would need SPDIF):
I have three breakout cables. And all of them seem to be the "Classic 20".

Would it work without additional hardware?

yes.
one computer would be digital "master" and the other computer would be digital "slave".
connect via ADAT and set master and slave in the Samplerate windows in Scope on each of the computers.

I'll have a search then for an example project. There ist no hurry as the second Z200 is in its way and i have to get the harddisks ready.
Sadly i cant afford some new SSDs now.

I think the time has also come now to switch from the STM 1632 to the STM 2448.
So i have to learn about this also.

I use two Scope machines (once PCI, one with Xite), and a separate set of computers with RME cards connected to them via MIDI (wired MIDI, ethernet midi) and ADAT + Analog i/o going to my big mixing board, etc. Works great this way.

So the two Scope machines go into the third over ethernet midi and ADAT, right? And from there you go to your mixer?
So the RME cards provide midi and Adat?
Do you do that because midi is more reliable that way?

The card that will go in the new Z200 has the license for Scope 5.
I am thinking if i can be lazy and put an image of the old system disk on the new one.
The thing: on the old system disk i have Scope 7.
So i would have to remove it and put Scope 5 on it.
Could that work (well)?
Or do you advice me to buy Scope 7 again?
I would also need to transfer the old owners keys to my account, right?

Scope 7 on all machines means you do the same thing on all Scope installs, both during install and runtime.

Scope 5 on a legacy XP machine can run a few things that are buggy or don't work on Win10/11 with Scope 7. Those things are fixable under Scope 7 32bit on XP (or etc), and work fine in Scope 5.x under Xp32. Most of them are minor, and are accessible via searching the forums. Search engine searches via site:forums.scopeusers.com (put that first in your search engine query) or an AI model are better than the default search on the top right of these forums.

ok, my thoughts about the projects changed a little.

What i have right now:
First PC:
1x Luna 2, Scope 7 license
1x Pulsar no software license
1x Pulsar, 5.1 License (never tested)


additionally.
1x Pulsar, 5.1 License (never tested)


But i would like to buy a Pulsar 2.
Now i found one to buy.
The seller says, that there are the files on the sticker on the card,
which he says he never used, as he used the card only in conjunction.
So the card possible works with Scope 2 or something under it?
Tor my knowledge, there is a hardware key on the sticker and a software key.
But that is not the keyfile, right?


I thought, if there is no software key or file, i could simple buy the Scope 7.

Or do we have to make a transfer from his ownership to mine?
What, if he never registered the card? Was there even a process like that?
Or is it enough that i have the hardware key?

Because now i was thinking about this setup.
First PC:
Pulsar 2 (best case: Scope 7)
Pulsar 1
Pulsar 1

Second PC:
should be connected via ADAT und Yesterday i bought a Lunabox:
Luna 2
Pulsar 1

I found some threads about transfering license. But not my case (yet).

Labels on scope cards typically refer to licenses earlier than 4.5.
All you need is to have at least one card with a 5.1 or 7 license in each PC. You can transfer plugins, but the main scope-OS is locked to a certain card. (If your seller would have a valid 5.1 or 7 license for his card, he would tell you )
You always need a software key to enable a certain function, not just the hardware.

In your case, the first PC would run 5.1, as one of the pulsar1 provides a license.
Your second PC would run 7, as the Luna2 provides the license.
I you are lacking activationkeys or keyfiles, you have to mail to support of soniccore.

Yes, maybe it would be alright to have 5.1 on one machine. But that is the main machine and i am working some time here with 7.
I wouldnt like the risk to go down to Scope 5.

And the Luna 2 should move now to the secondary PC for these reasons:
Lunabox there. Less DSP needed. I would put a Pulsar 1 in for ADAT Connection.

I could have three Pulsar in the main PC.

This sentece irritates me a little bit:

So, if the owner doesnt have any you would advice me for this way:
"I you are lacking activationkeys or keyfiles, you have to mail to support of soniccore."

Sadly the seller sold the card to someone else, shortly after i found out everything related to his card.
He didnt even write if it is Pulsar 1 or 2.

So again no Pulsar 2.

So i have to put on my Pulsar 1 in the second computer and leave the Luna 2 in the first one.


Now, is there any experience on the planet about unninstalling Scope 7
and then installing Scope 5?
This is for the second computer with the Pulsar 1.

Easy, or registry tricks and the likes?

You can install 5 and 7 in parallel.
But you have to force the correct driver for each version. (It defaults to the later driver of scope 7)

So switching from one scope version to the other means:
* select the corresponding driver in device manager.
* reboot
* start scope

Although it took me the whole night to connect the two computers.

I could not get any signal via ADAT.
Then i realized that when there is only one ADAT source or dest > "A",
i might have chosen the wrong port.
And that was it. If you look on the back of the pc it is the right one that works.

Can someone tell me, if it is right, that i have in Scope Sortware (5 and 7) only Adat A,
although there are four ports on the card?

The default project only contains one, you can add another, however if you look INTO the port, you will see they are in pairs for in and out, so you effectively only have ADAT A & ADAT B, one port for in the other out. The output port will have a red laser visible, while the input port is dark. This is normal for ADAT on professional soundcards (in and out ADAT pairs).

You have 16 channdels in and out digitall, plus you can use AES or SPDIF (depending on the type of io on that card), for a total of 18 at once at 48Khz and 44.1Khz. At 96Khz you will need BOTH adat pairs to carry 8 channels, as it's only 4 channels (rather than when in 88.2/96Khz mode (S/MUX).

WIth my Scope 5 and 7 installation i dont habe ADAT source B. That's why i am asking.
Maybe it is because they are Pulsar 1?
Or at least i dont know how to add them. They are not in the hardware in/out menü.

I got it! It's in the english manual:
"With the Pulsar I card, both ADAT input
ports are represented with a single 16
channel module instead of two 8
channel modules"

german manual:
"Bei der Karte SCOPE 6DSP werden
beide ADAT-Ports durch ein Modul mit
16 statt 8 Kanälen repräsentiert"

So it seems ADAT B are rather dummies or maybe they are 9-16.
I have to check it out (one day).

Took me a whole night because of the naming. A, B, Adat 1, ADAT 2...
And in the sync window the naming was Luna 2 [1], Pulsar [2], Pulsar [3],
whereas they are Pulsar and Pulsar [2] in the hardware i/o menu.
