Remember, LCD monitors have native resolutions so pick the resolution you prefer to work at, and get the appropriate LCD.
Four LCDs that I would suggest you look into, organized by price (cheapest first).

I was recently in the position to get a new monitor and I really wanted an LCD, but I have been using a 21" monitor at 1600x1200 for about 4 years. The Dell LCD was the one I wanted, but it wasn't worth $1200+ to me. The ViewSonic was still a couple hundred more than a CRT, and not quite as high of a resolution. I ended up getting the black Dell 22" Monitor with the Sony Trinitron tube. It looks very nice and I'm happy with it, but I can't wait until LCD prices come down a bit more!
