quick question. if Cubase has the "ASIO scope" selected but Cubase is not running does it still lock up the "ASIO scope" so that it cannot be used in other apps such as reaktor 3 or Reason? If so do I need to go into cubase and swith its ASIO selection in order to free it up for another app to use? It seems the Cubase latency is good but in other Apps it's poor and I thought this may be why. Thanks

1. Yes. You can run Reaktor 3 as a VST Instrument inside of Cubase. Just make sure your ASIO driver is in the project, then enable a track, and insert the VST Instrument into a Cubase audio track (someone with Cubase want to fill in here? that's how you do it in Logic and I bet it's pretty similiar).

You can also run Reason with Cubase, but you will instead be using ReWire, if I'm not mistaken... So make sure you read the "ReWire" section of the Reason/Cubase help files for more details (or maybe someone with Reason can fill in more).

2. Not usually - see above. But it depends on how you're running them - I suggest running Reaktor as a VST Instrument, if you want to sequence it with cubase.

To activate Rewire Channels:
Cubase -> Panels -> Rewire -> Activate at least one stereo track per Rewire application (Reason/Rebirth/...)

Rewire is sooo cool! It's the perfect integration, the perfect sync: one transportbar for Cubase, Reason and Rebirth! Reason2, used by Reason, even creates Midi tracks in Cubase per device in Reason.

One thing I don't understand however:
Cubase can be saved with a sequence on 'SubSynth1 Midi Dest'. Now, close everything, reload. cubase only loads the Midi channels that arecurrently present, which is normal. But Rewire programs only open after Cubase. So all Rewire2 midi channels have to be re-assigned every time a new Reason project is opened...

Ok I think I have been misunderstood. If I am just running Reaktor or reason "stand alone", not with cubase running. and wish to use the ASIO scope driver for these apps do I have to deselect it in cubase to make it available for these other apps. (now I've confused myself) I wish to get low latency out of reaktor and reason without the use of cubase. but i don't find the ASIO scope as an option in these apps and was wondering if it was because cubase has it selected even though it may not be running at the time

I don't know about Reaktor, but I think Reason accesses the ASIO driver thru the Rewire option in Cubase, so it needs Cubase to be running for ASIO.
With Cubase closed ASIO drivers (if they're present in the background pro) are available, for ex. Fruiyloops can use ASIO.

To use 2 Asio programs on Pulsar, you must:
-open the one you want to use ASIO first
-then open the other one. Now Asio will indeed be unavailable and it will look for another sound driver. You could use wav devices in Pulsar (disencouraged in Pulsar manual). You might switch between ASIO used by Cubase and Fruity. The other program should use another soundcard.

The Cubase manual explains 'How to give ASIO to Rewire instruments instead of giving it to Cubase' according to the above. Rewire is an audio link between programs just like there's a link between a VST host and plugin. I use reAson, reBirth, Cubase, Pulsar mostly in my basic setup. And some VSTi of course. All that audio goes via my cubase's ASIO to Pulsar. All these are controlled by 2 PC1600x for nice knob tweaks. I'm off for some playing, I need the practice

You need to copy the Scope ASIO driver from the Pulsar folder to the ASIO driver folder in Reaktor and Reason. You don't have to deselect it in Cubase. You can't run more then 1 ASIO app. at the same time however.

More off topic but....

What about using ASIO from Pulsar and ASIO from RME Hammerdoodahh in Logic at the same time. Is it possible ?

The first application taking the ASIO drivers, occupies them. So if you open reason first and Reason is set to use ASIO Scope, then Cubase cannot get it. You do not have to copy drivers around.

If you have another card with ASIO drivers though, like a Hammerfall, you can now open Cubase and give it the Hammerfall's ASIO driver set. This driverset is most important. One program can use one set of ASIO drivers. Ie. there's a different set of drivers for Hammerfall, and one for Creamware card drivers. Multiple Creamware cards share the same multimedia software drivers. This allows multiple Creamware cards to be chained with STDM and work together. A Hammerfall could give you an extra set of ASIO drivers. Ever heard of lightpipe?

Yes you can run ASIO on Reason or Reaktor.
You don't have to de-select it in Cubase.
But you have to have the Scope ASIO driver in
Reasons (or Reaktor) ASIO driver folder.
