no sound on monitor
I'm facing a simple problem, which I cannot solve for 2 hours now:
I try to get Ch01 on CTRL-Output.
Setting to mix gives full output, but setting to monitor give just silence.
What is missing ?

Yes, are you sure you have the correct outputs selected from the mixer module on the routing window to your monitors?
Re: no sound on monitor
nebelfuerst shows Ch1-16 now. On the Bus page (lower righthand corner there), I'd check the monitor channel strip.

Re: no sound on monitor
Here are some more pics.
I use VU-meters of micromixer to check for output signals.
Selecting "mix" gives signal, but selecting monitor just silence.

From the 2nd pic - mon L and mon R are not connected on the stm2448 (bottom right on stm2448 in routing window)

Re: no sound on monitor
I attached micromixer to monitor, and now everything works.
Ctr and Std never gave a signal and now I can control them, just like I expected.
It doesn't seem logic to me, maybe it's a miracle in christmas time
Here's a screenshot of the setup, when Ctr and Std delivered signals...
Thank you again, for your help.

STMxxxx popular trap! Re: no sound on monitor
thxs for this topic, popular trap!
very important for newcomers and after a long time "not" use the STMxxxx
ATTENTION:
some connections only become active when they are connected! this is programmed in favor of DSP power, e.g. sp "MonOut"

O.k., but what does it mean according to the "control room" and "studio" connectivity you mentioned in another post above?
These connections are simply active when pushing the related "MON" button in related sections.
Means: You cannot connect anything to these (outputs).
I´m just asking because I never tried and never needed because of lack of a separate recording room.
What I´m using in these sections are the "ext 1" and "ext 2" inputs,- which always worked.
You say. "MON" doesn´t work,- are you sure,- or does it require something being connected to the "MON" inputs (below FX Return inputs) ?

Re: no sound on monitor
yes, for mon to work, you need something connected to it.
the STM2448 and 4896 mixers are great, if you know mixers...
mon is for the headphone feed, so that the headphone feed can be adjusted differently than the control room(main) feed.
you can always have a separate remote room, if you have cables...

Re: no sound on monitor
Control room would go over the mains in the engineer’s space, typically. Sometimes you might pipe this to the recording room, but it’s typically better to keep only headphone feeds in there and have them come into the CR for a listen.
Mon was the headphone feed right off the board, so the engineer could check something in isolation while the band/producers/etc present in the room hear the control room feed still.
Rec is your main mix sum, and the Sub-mix, sends, and any matrix present help you setup custom monitoring for them while recording.
The labels follow the conventions developed over half a decade in larger studio situations, but once you understand the usages you can set them up however you wish.

Re: no sound on monitor
I mostly configure the adat inputs as 16 mono channels or 8 mono smux (92khz)
If connecting the adat inputs to stereo signals, I have 8 different stereo or 4 different stereo smux (92khz)
I guess I’m wondering how using multiple identical stereo channels benefits adat better than a single stereo channel?

Re: no sound on monitor
To get signal out of Ctr and Std, I need to connect something to mon, which is not even close in the schematic to the connectors of Ctr and Std.
( Ctr and Std are muted, unless I connected some dummy to Mon.)
I don't think, this is logic at its best

@Berny: The Adat goes to a RMEcard with bitwig under linux. I had some trouble getting the channels in the RME-driver right, so I flooded all channels with signals.

Re: no sound on monitor
nothing needs to be connected to mon to get sound out of cntrl or studio, unless you want to listen to the monitor section, which makes sense. there's no reason to need the monitor section unless you are using it. do you know the difference between ctr and std?
ctr is for the engineer, for the control room.
std is for the big playback speakers for the musicians in the live room.

for me the main focus is on the selection of the source, separately for ctr and sdt ↓
see this example:

Re: no sound on monitor
I'm guilty of abusing ctr to extract one channel out of 2448 to an external PC.
Therefore I did't have any need to connect anything to mon.
It works like Spielraum explained. It seems to be a DSP saving mechanism connected to MON, which affects CTR and STD, too.
On first screenshot, there is nothing comming out of STD and CTR.
On the second screenshot, I connected one Mon to a device.
Now STD and CTR immediately deliver stereo output.
