Display
Right-click on desktop-> Display properties...
-> Background: choose none, it eats RAM on both main and video memory.
-> Screensavers: Turn off screensavers and other powersaving settings.
-> Web: disable web content, or at least don't put any page/link in there.
-> Effects: disable all except 'Show windows contents while dragging'. This will save read/write to video memory.
-> Settings: As low as possible, but higher than 256 colors. General rule: set to 16bit.
-> Settings-> Advanced...
	-> Monitor: Set to the highest refresh rate. This will relieve your eyes. If you have two monitors, set one higher than the other. It prevents 'ghost lines' on the screens.
	-> Troubleshooting: Max hardware acceleration, will relieve your CPU and hands tasks over to processor on your video card. Matrox cards: Disable Matrox Quickdesk and it's icon, Bus mastering off. If you install Dualhea	d drivers form past september 2001, dualhead will give you 1 monitor with ie. 2048*768 instead of 2* 1024*768. This will make all your popus jump up in the center, no more maximizing on single monitor,... I reïnstalled older Matrox drivers.
Virtual Memory /Performance options
Win98: right-click 'My Computer'-> properties-> performance-> virtual memory-> see W2k for setting up
Win2k: right-click 'My Computer'-> properties-> Advanced-> performance options-> virtual memory
-Optimise performance for Background services.
-Set the virtual memory accordingly to your installed RAM. If you will never use all the RAM you have, disable Virtual Memory (only Win98). Else, set VM to 1-2.5. Most important is that you
set virtual memory to a fixed value, so that windows doesn't resize the file during heavy disk loads.
