More 808 and 909 drums! More authentic than before!

Ok... 1. do we need another 808/909 claiming to be the most authentic ever? (who's the authenticity police anyway?)
2. why the hell is it a sample lib?

Having multi gig libs of piano is one thing, but when the instrument you're recreating is a synth, why go samples and not VA? and..

3. does anyone still really care about authenticity of 808/909?

Dunno, I'm past it. Competely past it. Give me 2osc, 1noise, 1 multimode filter, 2eg, and I'll be a happy camper. I'll just make the 808/909 sounds if I need it. (or, sans the hats since those are special synths) I want a drum synth, not a x0x or y0y. Like that 909 kick. When was the last time you used it as is? That's about as boring as eating baked potatoes with no seasoning.

I'd quite like one I guess, just for completeness as I don't really do the whole 909-thing anymore (I just used samples back in the day anyway).

The hihats and cymbals were samples anyway as I recall. Really the rest should be some form of VA to get away from the static nature of samples - even a round-robin doesn't really give you the proper sound.

I picked up a great collection of Analog drum kit samples for Reason which work well in redrum, even getting the old Dr Rhythm sounds. Something like http://www.groove3.com/str/vdm-vintage- ... hines.html

I once had a Akai MG614 2Xspeed cassette recording machine with a great mixer part.
I made a collection of 909 instruments with several stages of analog clipping on the mixer.
It's good to have them around for when it's needed.
The 909 kick just needs a bit around 80 Hz to give it that little extra push on the breast.
And the high top of the 909 kick is unbeatable.
But nothing keeps you from making a good kick by yourself :-)

No...,  , only those behind the marketing mouve... There are many virtual instruments sounding better than those, at least for my ears, even for free... But I am sorry for those working behind it.

Well, that's the thing. It's good to have when needed.. but there's so much out there already, not to mention how easy it is to make your own with the plethora of free drum synths out there. Heck you can even create one with a free generic synth, and a pretty good one at that. I just feel 808/909 authenticity is kind of a thing of the past once we've got drum synths with the exact same synthesis layout. Only thing is as Mr Arkadin pointed out, the 909 hats and cymbals, of which there are plenty of samples of. To me it's just pointless because how authentic the 808/909 drum samples are doesn't make or break the track.. it's really how you tweak the synth, and sampling a drum synth completely obliterates the point.

Well, if these have the same fast attack as the 909 kick envelop...like I said, that high kick is special.
Personally I have countless basedrum samples of all sort, thousands actually.
I use the 909 kick only if I need fast result ánd it's typical pressure quality.

You're not the first one who wants to bring those classic elements to the grave tho.
And I myself had a TB303 from before electronic dance got invented.
End of nineties I sold it (for 5 times my orininal 2nd h. price), just because I heard it too much in dance tracks to use it by myself :D

The best 808 909 I’ve ever used is a Scope plugin, Huidrums by D-Mute. I’ve been using it since around 2004. I love it. I don’t know how it works (samples or modeling) but it sounds like a 808 and a 909 to me and it’s a Scope plugin. You can still get it from D-Mute:

Thanks! I downloaded the demo. I still haven't justified the cost of a real 909...

Yes, I would love to see these as I contacted the guy couple years back and they wanted too much money, reminded me of the Ison EQ stuff, radically differnt, but really good ideas.
Thanks ehasting, hook a brotha' up...
