Hi all,

I keep on having problems with my current motherboard (Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe). The problem consists of soundglitches in Ableton Live 8 and an occasional freeze.

Since the problem only occurs with the Creamware card installed I checked for IRQ sharing. And yes, the creamware card shares it's IRQ with the Nvidia video card. Googling around has learned me that manual assigning a separate IRQ to the Creamware card isn't possible with this motherboard (!). Therefore the only solution I can think of is a new motherboard or a new non-Creamware soundcard.

Since I do not want to abandon the Creamware platform after all these years I need some advice regarding a new solid motherboard. So, if anyone to wants tell me which mobo will do the trick, I'll gladly appreciate it!

My setup:

Intel E6600 / 4 GB / Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe /2x Nvidia Geforce 7950GX / Scope Project / Scope 4.0 / XP Pro SP2

a non- sli board would be a good start. sli boards are for games and video. still, you should be able to try a different slot, no? intel dg33 and dp35dp have worked very well, but they are not the latest chipset(not that it'll really matter, but still...).

I have to agree w/ GB.
I have had 100% stability w/ the P35 board for 2 years now.
I had 3 x Scope boards in it and switched over to the XITE-1 in May.
The default set-up shows I am sharing IRQ 16 w/ the NVidia GeForce 6600GT, and a few guys I know are having issues with old cards and the PCI-e 1X using a really high end X58 boards.
I know these boards work fine for games because they were tweaked to make such advancements, but it seems like they need another BIOS update or something.
On the newer boards it appears as though sharing an IRQ causes major problems.
I would find a P35 and keep the parts you already have and migrate to an Intel DP35DP.

I checked the suggested motherboards (ntel dg33 and dp35dp) and they look like a solid choice. However, they do not seem to support SLI which means I also have to buy a new graphics card.

Do you happen to know a SLI motherboard that might also do the trick?

an sli graphics card is a waste in a DAW, but there's no reason NOT to use it, i guess. unfortunately, i don't know of a PROVEN sli motherboard. i would think the g33 p35 and 45 chipsets should be workable. in any case, you're going to have to disable some stuff, since there are a limited number of available irqs, and modern motherboards are packed with features that you don't need...

Update: Just ordered the dp35dp!

Next problem arises: I can't seem to order the supported (as listed on the intel and 3rd party QVL website) memory in the Netherlands. Since I am a noob when it comes to memory, can you recommend another specific brand/module that is supported as well?

I want to place 4 x 2Gb modules and the store where I want to order the dp35dp also offers brands like OCZ, Buffalo, Corsair, Kingston and Patriot. The modules I am interested in:

- Kingston ValueRAM 4 GB DDR2-800 Kit KVR800D2N5K2/4G (CL5)
- Kingston ValueRAM 4 GB DDR2-800 Kit KVR800D2N6K2/4G (CL6)

I have the CL6 kits running with the DP43TF, since they were recommended by kingston for this board. can't see them with xp32, but a 64bit os should make full use of them. bios says it's all there...

I don't have advice about specific memory brands, but make sure that the sticks you order are 1.8V. The DP35DP requires this voltage. I think mine are Corsair, but don't remember for sure.

that stuff should work.

kingston lists the kit above for that board, too. they say if you don't mix with modules having other timings or speed ddr2-800 with cl5 may be used as well, but they recommend the cl6 modules. so you should be just fine with that choice.

Hi all,

I just got a reply from the store that the dp35dp is non deliverable! Bummer. (Weird, since I allready paid up front). Anyway, instead of this board they offered me a MSI P45 Neo3-FR.

Is this a good alternative?

i would guess that it would work, other than MSI mainboards have always seemed to me to be of poor quality...is that the best choice they have?

Just to speak from experience on using the P35 w/ an E8600 CPU, I have seen and tried various quads, all w/ Nuendo, DP, Logic w/ EXS24 and Kontakt.
I was just watching recent AMD and Intel quads running these apps and regardless of what developers are claiming, a fast dual core CPU is still out performing the quads in most of the audio/MIDI apps we see used for music production and performance.
I would love to see a superfast dual core running at 4.0GHz and better, but I am afraid Intel will never make 2 chip CPU's again, and AMD could be bancrupt anyday now, so I can only say the fastest most stable performer I ever had was the DP35DP w/ the E8600. I actually went back to the E6800 because it will run my fan quieter. The E8600 makes my fan scream and I can't even use the extra CPU juice. Strictly a DSP kind of guy, and more recently VST FX and Kontakt 3.0 which is a bigger resource hog than K 2.0. I might have to break out the E8600 again.
I still will not be forced into 64bit, or into using a quad until I see the apps I use get actual MULTI-CORE optimizations........................
Customers had to pull teeth to get Core2Duo's and SSE3.
The only app I have witnessed that seems optimized from the ground up is Omnisphere, a beautiful VSTi IMHO, but I could not use it live as it loads as slow as an Emulator II from the '80's. So for stage, that Dog won't hunt.

I got one of these in a lenovo...w/ a quad and 3 gigs of ram....I will give it a shot w/ the XITE..but the chipset & IRQ possible conflicts I hope won't be a problem....I like you are thinking to tried & true as opposed to cutting edge Win7 i7 stuff...

Those old P35/45 series and even X48 series are all great option IMHO.
I have seen Holger's laptop at NAMM running XP and an Intel based solution.
He left it running for the entire show day after day w/o any problems.
I know the LGA775 platform is boring, but it does work flawlessley.

The testing will begin when the XITE gets here...and results will be posted.....I'm fairly confident with INTEL...not ADM.. ...easy now Jimmy...I would hope, provide...like you, enough to do the job AND have enough room for Nuendo,,a few USB controllers to do the trick...

i'd expect it to work fine. you might need to disable an onboard device or two, but it should work.

I have never used AMD before, but I have been watching their CPU/Chipset combos working w/ 100% stability for 4 months now.
I would love to use an Intel solution once again, but I think if I do it better have the number 5 at the end of it's chipset....
P55's look very sweet and use 2 x PCI-e 16X slots instead of 3 and 4, and because I am seeing multiple 1X's I find that comforting.
Also the proven 2 channel DDR3 and LGA1156 means it's a reasonably priced solution.
I see no need paying 2-300 for a motherboard where I only need 1 freakin' slot for my XITE-1...........AARRRRFFFFF.!!!!!...........
