How is the AMD platform doing these days

I'm planning to upgrade my music pc within the comming months. I've been planning to go strictly intel, but I've always felt most compelled to support the underdog. So the question is, if I were to buy AMD top of the line, which route should I go. What should I look for? I need recommendations for:

- Motherboard (3 PCI slots minimum + 2-3 PCI-E)
- Chipset
- CPU
- RAM

Or is it simply just not as good as Intel?

Cheers,
Thomas

Talk to Scott. He'll explain the benefits.
Also check out the Kontakt benchmarks.
When it comes to streaming audio the new Phenoms tie the fastest i7.
It's big benefit is the option of DDR2 or DDR3, and back compatability with certain mobos too.

Thanks for chipping in Jimmy, but, maybe I wasn't clear about this, I need it to run flawlessly with my creamware/SC cards, and as we all know there has been problems with the availble chipset especially for the AMD platform. This is why I'm asking, are there any positive proof that you can build an AMD system that works flawlessly with creamware/sc cards, and if you can, what chipset/hardware should one choose.
