Is pulsar compatible with i7/quad core?

A place to talk about whatever Scope music/gear related stuff you want.

Is pulsar compatible with i7/quad core?

Post by mrvinyl »

Hiya,

Haven't checked in for a while, but maybe its because I rarely get any probs with my pulsar 1 card.

I'm about to take the leap into the quad core / i7 upgrade
and just wondered if my Pulsar 1 (running scope 4.5 software) will be compatible
I will be moving over from xp 32 bit to xp 64 bit to make the most of the quad set up

I use SCOPE Project card with i7 920 and it works fine. There is another SCOPE user who has i7 aswell. I doubt it works with 64bit XP tho, so if you plan to use 64bit XP and i7 then it probably won't work with SCOPE. Here's a link to specs and other info from those with working i7 and SCOPE set-ups - http://forums.planetz.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=27188

At this point in its lifecycle I wouldn't recommend xp64 either, unless you have a specific application that is known to work well on it or specifically requires it (ie, you know what you're getting into). Vista64 & the forthcoming Win 7 are the focus of most driver development efforts from companies here forward and the drivers aren't always backwards compatible due to driver model changes. Also Vista & Win7 will make considerably better use of multiple cores due to their kernels being newer (and more aware of modern multicore architectures) and the rest of the code being compiled under more recent compilers as well. Win7 specifically runs *very* well on my current primary machine, making better use of the 8 cores I've got than Xp32 & Xp64 both (Xp64 uses the server2003 kernel btw).
