one more AHCI note

Post by ScofieldKid »

Been trying to get more familiar with Vista....
There is a trick I came across if you want to switch from IDE to AHCI. I'll say, yeah, I don't think it really makes much of a difference as far as I can tell, but anyway...

1. set BIOS to IDE
2. install Vista
3. regedit, change "msahci" Start value from 4 to 0
4. reboot, setting BIOS to AHCI

That's one way to get there if you did an IDE install initially, and you have the MSAHCI builtin.

As others have suggested, the Intel ICH9R RAID is a pretty awful thing under Vista.

True.

I tell ya, I'm not at all convinced that Vista can be "fixed" sufficiently to ever become suitable for work in audio production. They messed this thing up but bad.
