are there problems when running 32bit applications in a 64bit os?

what are the pros/cons?

are 32bit apps faster in a 32bit os?

i already have 8gigs of ram on mobo that supports it and i would be very interested in making this big step from 32 to 64bit

there is no big step between the two
it will just allow to code even more sluggishly because the memory is available.
LMAO a couple of time recently when peeking at Mac OSX memory allocation on the office(!) boxes... a wordprocessor with 2G of virtual memory allocated - wtf
they will exhaust it as quickly as all the other 'evolutions' from 640k, 4MB, 32, 512, 1G, 2...
some stuff (like huge files) will gain, other will loose because of 'padding' the unneeded memory bits

I wouldn't go for Vista at all, unless you've already jumped the gun & heavily invested in it.
XP32 & 64 are still outperforming Vista in DAW benchmarks. If anyone has seen evidence published that's to the contrary, please post a link or details.

Arcadios, you keep trying to trick your system into doing more and more, which makes it never work. why not accept the limitations and realize that even with those limitations, your rig is more powerful than almost ANY studio from the 1980's or 90's....

maybe my system is faster than any studio of 1880s or 1890s but thats not the point.
i just try to make it better. what should i do with the rest 4gigs i have?

Maybe you could train the xtra RAM to make coffee?

don't buy things just for fun.

you can have a stable dependable system that does a specific job very well or a toy to tinker with. either way, i'm not judging you, it's your choice which you prefer. it's possible to be mislead by sales-hype though, that's for sure...

...and your system is more powerful, not necessarily faster. some things that are supposed to be timesaving, like tons of automation and off line bounces are actually time wasters and some things like the handling of tape/media and editing are MUCH faster....

i train them to be seen by a 32bit os

and what will that do if the bottleneck is not ram or disk? the extra will just be a waste and a destabilizer as well. plus, you'll need a management program running in the backround that will eat cpu cycles.

this is kinda like the cars we used to build as kids. they were hella fast and loud, but crappy as day to day transport, and the cost of tires was unbelievable....

xp 32bit cannot handle 8gb and at the same tinme this superspeed ramdisk can see all in a 32bit os.

Ramdisk Maybe OSs will evolve togheter with deep changes in the hardware architecture in the future..

Ramdisks are prohibited by harddisk manufacturers ...
... or would you expect something that worked perfectly 20 years ago couldn't be made running today ?

you can still find it in shops, however....
