E8600 E0
M/B :DFI LP LT P35
MEM :G.SKILL 8GB DDR2 1100 Dual Channel
HDD :SEAGATE 250G SATAII X2 WD 2500KS X1
VGA CARD :MSI 9800GX2
POWER: ZIPPY 850W
OS :WIN SERVER 2008
CPU:INTEL Core 2 Duo E8600 E0 ES
CPU COOLER:BTF92
5GHz !!!
I do not OC, but w/ this board a few tweaks on Memory and FSB can yeild great results. I love to watch these tweakers though. As they try to destroy CPU's their results proove to me the reliability of the chipset and CPU at stock or slightly higher speeds.
For those lucky bastards w/ an INTEL / ABIT / ASUS or DFI Lan Party w/ the P35.......This is the ultimate CPU and it will last for many, many years to come. The p4's and Tualatin P3's are still running, and these new CPU's are 45nm and running on air. If those flawed designs w/ poor heat dissapation can run that long think about the P35 w/ an E8600.
DDRII RAM is so ridiculously cheap. DDRIII w/ a quad 9650 shows less performance than this combo at matching speeds.
P35 / E8600 is perfectly mated and mature. Until real world optimisations for music apps happens, I can't see a more fast reliable solution than this. Sure the Nehalem quads next year might finally be the ultimate rig, but I already seem to have plenty of power.
If any of us audio guys need anything in terms of performance, it might come from going to 64bit w/ more RAM.
