Startech PCI Express --> PCI slot external expansion chas

Post by Terrac »

Can anyone comment on this box, it's inexpensive and so I wonder about it's capabilities. It's muuuuuch less than the magma or other comparable external PCI expansion chassis.

jo's unit is mine now, btw. had to use it for different things (bringing an old isdn card into a recent server). didn't have time for more testing, but be sure to read something later...

So what would be the least expensive chassis people have seen/used that will fit the 14 DSP card?

Thanks,

hey stardust will this be better via expresscard34?
can i reach that with an adapter from pcmcia to expresscardslot too? (does such a thing exist at all?)
i read that pcmcia has a throughput of approx.: 125mb/s whereas pci2.2 has a throughtput of 500mb/s.
expresscard34 slot is four two five times faster than pcmcia.
can you verify that? (or sombody else?)

i have a serious freezing problem when using creamwares´ scope and one uad1 in one magma and guess it´s due to the lack of enough bandwidth.

PCi 32 bit throughtput is 133mb/sec.

i dont think freezing is from lack of bandwidth, did you try reordering the cards ?

yes i reordered the cards - with no success, the funny thing is the magma box with scope and uad connected to winp sp1 standard pc asus 845pe via pci connection works,
have you read the post from the link?
the more i load the uad the earlier my system breaks down when connected to pcmcia! this seems to me because of more stressed pcmcia bus. the system gets even more stable when i give pci latency settings higher priorities, but even then it still crashes after 20-40minutes.
