Hi all,

I didn't know wether or no this is the right forum to post about this.. so please feel free to move it if there's a better place (off topic?)

I'm planning to buy my first pair of "real" monitors for my home studio, and noticed there are several kinds of them (main, nearfield, midfield, active, passive, etc).

Without entering in the multi-thousand-bucks high end stuff, what could be a decent start?

i was thinking on something like a pair of tascam active nearfield monitors:

Can I plug them directly to the scope's or one of the A-16's outputs?

any clues?

afaik there's also a 6 inch version, the one in the link has almost no bass response
a monitor frequently suggested as a quality device, yet budget saving is the Yorkville-YSM1p

Just saw a couple of reviews.. They seem a very good piece of HW.. I found also the TASCAMs with 6 and 8 inch woofers. There's a sub-woofer addin for them. but don't know if that's useful in a studio.

I also saw a roland that has an AES/EBU xlr input..

Focusing on active nearfield monitors, the YSMs still seem to be the best buy.

if your room can produce so far good response to your cd player (wave reflection) than i think you should go for better monitor. but first you may fix your room.

I use a Blue Sky Media Desk 2.1 system. If you ever move into 5.1, you can purchase an expansion that upgrades the system to a true 5.1.

They sound *amazing.* Everything comes out in the mix and they are remarkably, um, flat - even with the 2.1 configuration. Mixes have been much better than what they have been when using some old Alesis actives.

The Blue Skys cost 'bout 550 right now.

the blue skys are a great value on a fine speaker. i have the system ones...

My suggestion would be Adam a7.Great bang for the buck.I like the blueskys aswell.
