The eVGA GeForce 5600GT w/ 512MB of DDRIII go for less than 80 USD brand new.
Us Scope guys got it made, as the video cards that we need are the ones that gamers wouldn't dream of using. So when gamers are up around GeForce 8800 GT, or 9200GT, we will gladly take their unused stock and be happy.

PCI: The Matrox Parhelia is one of the finest cards for doing "real" work out there. (I have an AGP one and that seriously limited my mobo choice).
It can have up to three screens (I've 3 19" ones) and the image quality is so good, it's a pleasure to work with. It's getting a bit old, it's not the cheapest out there, but it's definetly worth.
No NVidia or ATI card arrives to it's heels...

There's always a PCI port you cannot use for scope cards because of some bloody connector
Or if you dare to use an ASRock mobo, there's one that has an AGP port and supports the latest dual core/quad core procs

(have one and has been very stable up to now)

there's a difference between a pci card and a pci-e card. a pci-e card won't affect the bandwidth available for the scope card(s). a pci card will...

Up to 4 monitors, AND PCI express... can also team up 2 cards to have 512 MB of memory (this is not for gamers ^^)
One new item on my todo list...

Do yourself a favor if it is a Scope / VSTi DAW you're gunning for.
Get the boring / stable as hell Intel DP35DP. This DAW screams w/o any tweaking of the BIOS, or CPU. Intel has made this a very fast stock mobo out of the gate. Asus, and Gigabyte tweak their mobo's as they know people will be posting their stock speeds in their benchmarks, and OC'ing bench's.
Intel has decided to make Asus, Gigabyte and others a little nervous recently. They have a very fast stock speed, and allow tweaking of the memory latencies, etc., in the new BIOS settings.
The extra cash for the fancy boards is not necessary, trust me.
THIS DAW'g HUNTS.

there are many many topics already recommending boards for use with Scope.
Personally I'm looking at the Gigabyte P35-DS3R (
topic here) and probably a Geforce 7600 GT or 8600 GT. You can find fanless versions of both these cards. AFAIK 256 mb video ram is usually enough unless you're running games at really high resolutions.
