Cubase 4.1 and Scope problems

Post by TARI »

Hello there!

I am having problems with Cubase 4.1 and Asio drivers. I cannot work at 48k because the system crashes.
Will this be fixed with the new V5 driver? and when will Sonic Core release it?
This is really annoying... :x :-?

...but who's to blame?
It all worked poorly with Cubase 4.0 and 4.01 but great with 4.02 and 4.03
Then disaster struck with 4.1 - and all with same Scope drivers
(origin from 4-5 years old 3.1c version.)

I guess 44.1 kHz will be our only option for a while

regardless of what steinberg says, there are numerous cards having problems with 4.1, not just scope. if you search Planetz, you'll find links to people complaining on the cubase forums.

still, maybe v5 will improve the situation....in the meantime, the workaround is to open cubase with scope @44.1 and then change the samplerate to what you want it to be(with cubase open).

Thank you for the info!
I have complained at Cubase forum as well and they say that it is a Scope issue (I don't want to blame to any of the sides). The truth is that the drivers are quite old...I wouldn't like to change of Sound Card. I have Creamware cards since 1999, but at this point I prefer Cubase 4 than Scope. At least it is more necesary to me...

You could just roll back to the Cubase release just before 4.1 - It works fine here...
And then wait untill Steinberg gets there act together at make Cubase work again. As I understand it, it's ASIO that seems to be the problem. ASIO is a standard that have worked on Scope for years. Cubase seems to be the cause of the trouble you have atm...

As far as I know, once you have saved your projects with Cubase 4.1, you cannot open them again with an earlier version, including Cubase 4.0... :(

Also Cubase 4.0 had some bugs that have been corrected now. Except for that ASIO problem, Cubase 4.1 is really solid.

Sorry but I can't believe that.
Maybe Braincell can give a sign on the subject?

This is a post in Cubase forums:
"I'm back!!

This is some SERIOUS OWNAGE experience as i have never ever experienced in my computer life with a purchased software:

1) I started a musical project i spent some time on, right after upgrading to v4.1, this at next to shortly discover a serious asio / sample sync problem which prevented the project from loading which made it almost unaccessible.

2) i came to cubase.net forums to discover other people experiencing the same issue, so i decided to uninstall v4.1 and install v4.0.3

3) in order to pursue my musical project i decided to load it up in 4.0.3

4) i get this fantastic message: "Project "*****.cpr" is Cubase version 4.1.0. Version 4.0.3 of cubase cannot load it."

( OWNED! )

THANK YOU STEINBERG!!!!! "

that sounds terrible indeed.
Thanks for that :-)
Especially that version number change and that error message are alarming.
Maybe there are disturbing files left after uninstalling the update, resulting to the (wrong) message.
It would be good to know if the same happens on a mac.
if so, it for sure is a Yamaha/Steiberg thing.
If not, it could be a good sign where to look for the cause.
One thing I know for sure: I'll stick with my official version 3.1.0 , tho I'd like to see what the mac would do.

when saving to a new version of a program, it's always a good idea to save with a new name(if the song's name is "happiness", then you can save as "happinessv4-1" or similar). older versions of a program never read files saved in newer versions.

here's the link i was referring to. as you can see, several other interfaces have the same problem.

if I read it right, the mean thing is the file get's a new version identity without having it changed.
If that's true, it's disastruous.

It seems Steinberg do this with all major updates
Even seen people downgrading Cubase LE for some reason, and meet this issue.
So i stand behind what garyb says:

I wrote 'changed' but I meant 'saved'...
