Intel DP35DP (DP35DPM)

Wasn't sure if Intel was going to release it or not. But there it is.

I like that they use TI firewire. But I do have to wonder at this point if ASUS is not a better choice, due to the quantity of product they are producing and supporting.

..nor floppy drive! :x
I've already considered to buy that mobo, it seems good if it would be possible to install that RAID/AHCI driver provided by intel itself on a 3.5 diskette... :-?

cheers

pass imho

get asus p5k (basic model) or gigabyte ga-p35-ds3 rev2 instead (rev2 doesn't have legacy ports, it's all-usb affair). I'd dare to say these two boards have better build quality than intel (gigabyte at least, the board feels good if you hold it in your hands, not as sturdy as tyans, but good enough imho, a bit sturdier than asus).

ga-p35-ds3 doesn't have FW (some boards from same family DO have TI firewire, 400mb variety). You'd need to buy a pcie FW card, at least you could choose a 800 model, when you factor that you are ~10 euro above p5k price, you'd have a serious firewire connection otoh.

where I live, the gigabyte board is 5-10euro cheaper than said intel board ...

gigabyte is good, generally.

This will be Intels basic mission critical board. No frills, no problems, just like the 865,876,965,975 tpye boards.

Just the meat and potatoes.

BTW that guy makes several mistakes by calling it a 965LT, and claims of 2 PCI 32bit slots are misleading. But his website looks very professional.

Regardless, it's my new choice. I wasn't aware of that. I didn't like the BTrail, and was leaning towards any board w/ 3 x PCI.

Gary was right, they will have one w/ 3 xPCI's. Once again, he knows his Intel stuff. I have never had one single crash using the Intels, and am relieved they have a P35 w/ 3 !! :D

an usb floppy drive should do well here. you will need one anyway if MS continuously refuses to integrate a routine to get such drivers off a properly prepared usb stick... formatting a stick as a floppy (there are tools for it) doesn't help.

-greetings, markus-

ps. what bothers me much more is the absence of ps/2. I could live without the mouse port, but won't change my keyboard :)

let alone my PS2 based 4-port KVM switch...
but that is a smart thing anyway, as I have a PS2_to_USB adapter to include a Mac in the game :D
(not all of these adapters are created equal - the first one I tried failed)

cheers, Tom

by next to nothing
just make a bootable DOS CD. Win ME style. i allways keep one handy.

Astro I also have a 1U 4 port KVM.

Do you know of a decent adapter I could use w/ the DP35DPM?

So maybe I should get these too!
I think I will..... already mailed my dealer if they have 3x pci version
availible!

The question is now, what processor to use ?
dual-core, quad-core ? Core2Duo will probably be a bit
more afordable! But Ia m looking for stability.... maybe
even go with Xeon ?! I am not sure.....

For example these 2 are almost the same price :

Core2Duo 2x2400mhz - 4096 kB - 1066 MHz - Conroe
Core2Quad 4x 2400 MHz - 8192 kB - 1066 MHz - Kentsfield

The E6850 / P35 has equal scores in audio benchmarks as the quad QX9650. The apps also spawn multiple threads, but the E6850 costs 275 USD, the QX9650 costs 1100 USD when it's released next week.

Tascam recommends a fast Core 2 Duo over a quad also, even though it is multi core compliant.

Yeah, our pc hardware guy at work also recommended Core2Duo.

So I will get 2 systems with :
DP35DP, Core2Duo E8600 (3ghz), 2GB kenington valueram, Antec Sonata III case.

Seems like a solid setup to me! still wondering about GFX.....

what do you think ?

also: I have 2x version1 and 2x version 2 cards. Will a v2 SRB make a v1 system support lower latency ?

I tried the same thing, but the card w/ the I / O's controlled the latency, not the SRB. It acted as a booster for DSP amount.

You mentioned the E6800 ? The E6850 is the faster one, and excells w/ the P35's. The E6800 is quick also, but is for the 965's, and 975's. There's a big difference in performance, but not price thankfully.

Hi folks.

I am planning an upgrade for my computer and thanks to Scope4live for his extensive researchs.
I have this question though. I am leaning toward the intel dg35fb instead of the dp35dp.
The former have an integrated gpu and ps2 mouse keyboard connections.
It seems to be the same chipset and the same architecture.
Am I making a mistake here and what are the drawbacks?

Thanks

Christian

the closest thing i find to that product number on the intel site is DG33FB. the main difference there is the chipset, of course. if that's the board you mentioned, i'd be comfortable with it, for sure.

OK I'll get the E6850 then, thanks : )

Thanks Gary, it is really the DG33FB I was talking about.

If I understand correctly, memory speaking I found that the "OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 System Elite Dual Channel" has the 1.8 volt required to be compatable with the board.
May I ask if any stick with lower latency can be used with the board and if you have any suggestions?

Thanks

I am getting the same board, and already have bought the RAM from ..............
www.newegg.com

I even bought a PS/2 to USB adapter for my 1U KVM / PS/2 QWERTY.

The E6850 / P35 Intel combo will be a fast stable DAW. The L2 cache and low latency DDRII are capable of 18 VSTi's @ 32 samples from benchmarks I have read.

The results were achieved from Nuendo, and the VSTi used was Magneto x 18.

Just add an RME, or a Scope card, and this Dog Will Hunt.

Impressive technology those memory sticks. But again the mobo memory voltage is 1.8 volt. Are you sure that the one oczflex at 2.1 will be compatable?

I already have a Puslar 1 and a Scope pro boards. I guess like you say: this dog will hunt.
