Just had a quick question concerning levels in the digital and analogue realm. Right now I have a Soundcraft Spirit Fx board running direct outs to an ultra 16 adat . I have channel inserts with some solid state comps and I use a mindprint Mk- II tube pre as a channel strip in some situations.
The thing that is slightly confusing me is my levels , especially on my ultra 16 and my 2448 (scope) mixer.I apparently can now switch my views on my ultra adat from dbvs to rms meter values which I can understand (try to hover around -12 or slightly above on dBFS and somewhere averaging -4 to +4 dBVU) so with all this converting from analogue to digital and checking my meters often , when the mix is then sent back to my soundcraft on the mix channel I should be following my rule of dBVU correct? This is in my tracking state by the way to , of course it would be a different story in the mixing phase where it would be less congested. I just want to get the best levels I can and more than that , understand the process of this chain.
And I forgot to say , Im outputting sound from the analogue outs on the scope card to a panned left and right (seperate) channels on the board.
Thanks for the help
