Hi Guru's

I've been running a LunaII+Powersampler for over a 5 years now

and need to replace my audio machine since it's very RETRO today.
P42.55 ,PE4PE,WinXp.........!

Here's my new setup(didn't spend overmuch money for it)!

INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6750 - 2.66 GHZ 1333 MHZ 4MB LGA775 BOX
2048 mb ddr2-667
nVidia Geforce 8600GT PCIe
ASUS P5B
2XSATAII 250gbHDD
LunaII+Powersampler
A16ultra

Does anybody from you GURU'S uses (but VERY Stable) this Setup?

Optimization needed???

I heard that similar setup have guys from www.hamburg-audio.de

The E series are great w/ Scope VST combo DAW's.

I use the E6700 on a 965 chipset w/ 2 GB's of DDRII low latency ( CL3 ) RAM, and several Raptors.

It works well with samplers and the endless streaming apps. Live is a dream using Bidule as a shell for various GVI / K2 VSTi's.

Hello there new friend!

Well, I think your choice is good overal, good MOBO too. But don’t expect to be everything trouble free, it is never like this. You have to be ready to fix some minor issues that always arise when we want to configure it for complex tasks.

How will you be using the system for, exactly? How do you work with your DAW in a daily basis?

I guess what's important is the way ASIO and Midi will be working in his setup.
Can't think of a solution without sequencer.

Well,my choice was this setup because it's not too expensive (cca.700euro)
and I think it will serves my turn.(many Creamware users in Germany have it)
Don't know how much WinXP optimization is needed for this setup?

@nestor:
I guess it will be around 6-10 hours daily use! Don't use toomany CW plugs in the project only STS4000.Have quite enough external gear.
For the last 5 years didn't have any issues or troubles with my old RETRO setup,
maybe on the beginning (from Win98 to WinXP) it was pair issues but long time ago corrected.

not too much optimization. the most impotant one is to turn off the xp eyecandy in control panel/system/advanced/performance settings("adjust for best performance).

remember, most of your external gear that's been made in the last 10years, and many older pieces, runs on a dsp chip. don't be afraid to use whatcha got.....

Hi guru's, I'm back!

Seems that I have some Asus P5B issues(PIO,DMA)

The first SATA HDD C: (MAXTOR250gb) is very,very sloooow.(transfer rate 4,9MB/s)
The second one SATA HDD(SEAGATE500gb) working normally (transfer rate 58MB/s)
When I transfer data from MAXTOR to SEAGATE it goes very fast but from
SEAGATE to MAXTOR goes to sloooooooow.
Scope and Nuendo seems to work slugged relay when song is from MAXTOR but ok???

I did following:

1. Updated windows MB drivers.
2. Changed BIOS settings regarding SATA.
3. Flashed BIOS with latest.
4. Unplugging IDE devices
5. Changing SATA cables,jumpers
6. Update ATA controller
7. Update 965 Chipset

Nothing helped, Maxtor is still to slow.

Can't switch off PIO mode in P5B and can't force Windows to
transfer in DMA mode,although in ATA controller shows DMA.
Current Transfer Mode should be UDMA-5.

I attempt to force WINXP to redetect capabilities of all device and to force
win to use DMA:
Deleting MasterIdDataChecksum and SlaveIdDataChecksum values!
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\
{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
This was one of my friends suggestion!!!

But after reboot this values are still there and same thing occur!
Didn't work!

How can I switch off this PIO mode and use only DMA???

Can someone from You GURU's help me,please, I'm so confused!!!!!!

I've the same problem with an ASUS P5K and HD Hitachi 160gb SATAII !!!!!
Can anyone help US?????????

As I can see on the net, there are lot of Asus P5Bxxx users that have very similar problem with SATA hdd's!

I think that AndreD was the first one who assemble AudioPC with P5Bxx and
it was very successfully built.!!!!

Perhaps He'll help us, or someone I hope

what bios settings for your sata drives did you use? can't you enable dma in the device manager?

Hmmm, well that is a problem we have, everything seems to be correct but actually it is not!

In Device Manager it shows DMA enabled, and in Bios you can't switch off
PIO mode(you can choose auto,0,1,2,3,4,5, but not DISABLE)

My presumption is that WinXP choose by itself PIO mode for first HDD altought
shows DMA in Device manager(on ATA controller).
Maybe mistake was using Standard IDE mode instead AHCI or RAID, I dont know!

The problem is arranged

After hours of agony, I just reconnect MAXTOR HDD from SATA port 1 to SATA port 3 and everything works splendidly

.

Seems that >>>>the biggest problems = always simple solution

Everything works splendid

at least so far!

Really big,big difference from P4-2,55gHz.
Many plugins are in the game now almost without limitation

(joke) ,URS,,Waves,Oxford etc,etc, I'm so happy now

Dont have intention to change anything for at least 5 next years
