The Russian guy writes great detailed reviews, but beware, he is a sneaky bastard.

Just thought I'd save you guys a search. Gigabyte isn't what I will be getting as I will await Intels BIOS and Mobo.

But the fact there are 4 PCI's is good for us.

I like the 4 PCI configs, as they always allow us to pack 3 FAT BASTARDS in there, w/o those damn SATA connectors getting too close to my DSP's !!

Don't worry about the SATA ones; they don't interfere at all in fact. Once you’ve got the cards installed, you’ll see that the SATA cables can come up the way. What I would suggest, (and this is what I did with good results), is squeeze the SATA together in a way they will stay rigid, and straight positioned, so they cannot move around or get against the SCOPE cards.

If you were to trace a straight line between the PCI and the SATA connections, you’ll notice that there is no such a big deal, fortunately :)

I am using Pro 15's though, they are so long I had to use an external DVD recorder. The SATA cables are fine in a PCI x 4 configuration. But trust me, On a 3 x PCI config, those little SATA connectors would have to be reckoned with.

I usually have GaryB doing my DAWg's, as his fingers are approxiamately 6 to 7 inches long, perfect for building / cabling work. I can barely watch him work as his hair is so long it sheilds my view like an Italian Cinzano Umbrella.

I'm just glad that phase II of Intels roadmap designs are a month behind. Right now the chips are in full production, the cycle as usual means the same. In 6 months time, the X series will have DDRIII at lower latencies, and higher speeds. Quads will have matured nicely, and our beloved AMD will be fighting for it's survival. They will be forced to make a giant leap and gamble their lives on some new SSE5 instuctions, and skip over some prior designs. In other words over in Dresden, if they don't start fabbing out some 45nm CPU's by early next year, they will be history. Then Intel will be free to screw us as they did with the old PII Coppermines w/ 1GHz speeds for 1200 USD, remember.

So use Intel for your CPU's, and build DAW's for your kids with AMD's, lest we be dominated by big dollar CPU's again. Trust me, Intel can afford to hold off the government's anti trust lawsuits for years while we foot the lawyers bills.

BUY AMD,........just don't stick it in your DAW unless you can do multiple takes in the studio.

I'm currently debating between one of these solutions or a new Xeon motherboard. It's the first time since 95 or so that consumer (prosumer? lol) oriented boards have enough horsepower to be of interest to me. Getting a non Xeon board might be a bad idea though, as I'd finally be able to play more games... :P
