XP pro SP2 , Update or leave as is ???

Post by Stompa81 »

G'day all my fellow Scope maniacs!!! i've missed u all heheh

Just wondering what is the General Consensus on Updating Windows XP PRO SP2 for the purpose of using SFP??

Is it better to install it As is out of the box (SP2 release) and never do automatic updates or is it better to always keep it up to date???

The updates to me seem to be installing a lot of crap that I think is not needed, clogging the system up etc etc or am i wrong and will updating be a good improvement to my system??

Thanx in advance ppl :D

p.s havent been here for ages .. Not that I dont like u guys :P its just Scope eats all my spare time now .. Esp with Flexor 3 .. OMG i just cant get enough!!!

If your DAW isn't used for surfing and is dedicated to Scope, I wouldn't bother. As far as I know SP2 is mainly security for security and Scope runs wonderfully without it on my machine. Others more experienced with XP and computers in general may have a different and more educated opinion.

I'm using an SP1 install on my audio machine (not connected to internet). It's always worked well for me so I don't see a reason to change it...

Cool thanks for the Input!! .. My machine still works .. just not as smoothly as when everything was freshly installed with no updates or other multimedia programs etc etc.

All i really use besides the usual internet related programs is SFP, ABLETON 6, WAVELAB and Winamp . My windows XP disc has SP2 slipstreamed so i guess ill just stick to that and not update it.

Gonna go make my machine fresh and take it off the net now :)

if you get a black box system that just works (and that prevents you from fiddling around with it) you shouldn't care what's underneath.
(tested, of course) system updates are provided by the manufacturer, so no need for manual recompile.
"if it ain't broke, don't fix it" :D

you may find it does some funny things with Midi timing if you are doing heeps of full on automation from your Daw to SFP.. Or you may not :D good for u if it doesent :)

there's only little differences in how mine used to run .. just a few longer pauses than usual. Could be 1 of 10 million things mbaye not the updates.. who knows

You can't doubleclick on .oxe files anymore to install stuff but they still work if you put them in the oxe folder in /sfp

Something to do with the new way it handles programmes.
