I was happy to speak with Frank Hund at the Messe, and he gave me permission to inform you about the new PCI-e cards with fast Sharcs that will come out next month (beta).
The bad thing for most of you is that they will only support the Macintosh platform untill next Christmas, as this was much easier to get it right in a short time.
He assured me tho that Vista will definitely be supported in the future, alas XP will be left as history.
I feel proud to be allowed to forward this to you

no need to panic, old machines will work as before, and support of Vista at 64 bit is pure gain!

I completely agree. We still have our old Scopes that work perfectly fine with old stuff. I've been clamoring for CWA to come out with completely new, PCI-E, OS X cards for some time. If it's using SHARC chips, it's still code compatible with the older chips and legacy Scope devices will probably only need minimal re-compiling to be compatible. Right on the heels of John Bowen's announcement, this is AWESOME.
I wonder if this new "Scope" (or whatever it's called) will be Intel-Mac only (no PPC)? Either way our PowerMac in our studio here doesn't have PCI-E slots.
We've been wanting to get a new Mac Pro, so here's a new excuse to get one....
Thanks for letting us know!!!!!

hubird,
you forget Hund also mentioned,
that the routing possibilities and the modular stuff won`t be ported to the new platform as the porting is too much work for them and too expensive,
basically it will be an fx accelerator card with some synth/effect stuff available in the VST host. (like powercore or XTC)
I asked why and he answered, it would be too much work for their small group to port everything to the new sharcs....
BTW they will use 2 of the newest Tigersharcs which is good news.
also no more ADAT in/outs - as these are too expensive for a profitable card layout these days.
They will try to keep the cost very low for the card.

Intel mac only, sorry, forgot about that
@ hifi, you must be joking, you're teasing me to hear more, but i really don't know.
Are you sure about all that??
my name is still hubird tho...
Let's wait till frank makes new announcements soon, like he told me to do in a few days, 147 will be a memorable number he said with a grin, but I don't have a clue what that's supposed to mean

Let the Mac crowd fix all of the bugs 4 us.
I hope they don't expect super big sales though. I still remember when Logic left the PC world. They could have never survived that transformation w/o Apple
behind them.
I always wanted both platforms, why take a chance. Afterall, I win when I gamble as I pray to Buddah, Allah, Moses, Jesus, and Mohammed. One of 'ems bound to answer.
Best Of Both Worlds I Say,

roy,
the problem is the new chips(tigersharcs) have a new code architecture, so even with XP/Vista support, none of the old devices will run on the new chips/new card design.
I`m sorry to say this.
The good side is the Tigersharcs are way more powerful than the old chips, you won`t run out of ressources that quickly. It has loads of power!

there are two companies with this technology.
you'll likely see more than one solution. as i understand it, Frank's company is making something new. SonicCore is making Scope, specifically. this might clear up some misunderstandings....
i'm glad(really glad) to see that Frank has embraced pci-e. a couple of years ago he explained to me why pci-e was not worth the trouble and that the new product would be firewire. needless to say, i prefer cards......

Sweet! I like this move.
Check out what UAD has done. But they left a gaping hole by only feeding the mix effects market. If we end up with an XTC-ish PCIe card that has a lot of the Creamware synths and effects, that would be a pretty awesome compement to what UAD has done. As for a working environment, yes I can see that well. I can work inside Ableton just fine. So seeing a PCIe card as VST's, no problem here. Would be nice if this ends up as being a card you can use in a machine along with a UAD card, as I expect it would be an excellent tandem.
I like where the Mac OS is right now as well. Apple has really hit their stride, so I'm happy to see some development on the Mac.
Good news!

but inDSP don't have the rights the the Creamware synths (apart from ASB synths?) and effects, so these new cards will have to be running new stuff - a completely unknow quantity

so the Tiger go out from the wood
great to know that creamware choose again what is best for best quality...but the jump will be hard to do for little consumers...I hope they will go on with little card as the Luna, so a slow migration will be possible with no to much bucks...
Does a LINUX version will exist...
Can we expect that we will get for free a dedicated version of our fav. pluggin we have already paid to run on the new card...
one more month to wait...
