Hi, i see a few people are having problems with dual core setups and Scope...is this the exception or the rule?

i'm looking to get an AMD athlon X2 but obviously i'm a bit wary...is intel the way to go here? obvioudly i have to upgrade my pc to dual core at some stage, but i'm a bit confused as to which to go for (obviously, i want to go with amd cause i've never had probs with them and they're cheaper)

so, any tips for me?

get an intel conroe(core2) processor and don't worry about it. i like to pair with an intel motherboard as well(D965lt or D965ry, both cheap). this combo runs great! it's also plenty cheap. good eough for apple g5, good enough for me.

anyone here using AMD?

since the core duo 2.4Ghz costs the same as the amd 2.8Ghz, the AMD seems like the better option for raw clock speed.

of course the duo has a 4MB L2 cache compared to the AMD's 2MB...but eh...i don't know what difference this will even make...

Is the core 2 2.4 actually faster than the 2.8Ghz AMD?!?

well, i've done a bit of reading and it seems the Core 2 runs quicker than the athlon anyway...well, the 2.4 core 2 ran quite a bit quicker than the 2.6 athlon X2

so i'm assuming there will be similar performance Vs the 2.8 athlon. as they're the same price, i think i'm gonna go with Core2 now..

AMD X2 + nForce4 chipset is a bad combination for scope, but a good combination for surfing - thats why i still use my Intel 2.4 P4 for my scope sys

Why bother when you know Intel works flawlessley w/ all CPU's / Chipsets ?

Because its a bad idea to focus on one source of cpu's, it leads to a monopolistic market, something that none of us will benefit from (which you are aware of as I can see in your reply )

also it feels good to support the underdog, something every owner of a Creamware-system propably also are aware off allready.

Agreed 100%. Glad I never bought a Cyrix, or VIA.

I absolutely love the new architechture they are going for w/ the all in one chip solution. They even have Boosted the cache size of the L3 to 2MB !!

But @ my gig, I will use Intel only, and my next upgrade on my internet DAW will be AMD 4 sure. That way I can also help to keep Intel's britches from getting too big !!

I read an interesting article on AMD's superior ratio over Intels when going from 32 bit apps., to 64 bit. It's the Cornoe and EMT64 article. So when we get 64bit drivers 4 SFP, you can rub it in to me then.

Either way it goes , I think people will just switch to what performs better, that How I see it anyway .. Im not interested in brand names .. show me the Specs,Test Results and Indipendant Reviews and ill buy the Best one for my needs.

For the ammount of equipment im sure gets pumped into everyones Studios , A new CPU and Motherboard would be relativly cheap but necessary wouldnt it ??

Im hoping the Results wont differ too much From AMD and Intels 64 bit capabalities, dont want to have to choose teams AGAIN!!

How well does Scope run on that Ancient P4 2.4?? Because I have one of those Neverdie P4 2.4's my self (sitting in the cupboard)

Ancient? Then I'm light years behind with a p4 1.8 on ASUS P4B266.
But it runs excellent, very stable, and excellent PCI bus performance. So I aint upgrading until there is no choice. I don't use VST's so the p4 1.8 is plenty fast.

it runs even better on an even older P3
(at least I added a Tualatin for some bliss in the system, but that's entirely psychological...Scope doesn't care)

kidding aside - as long as the chipset supports a reasonable PCI throughput (Scope likes to access main memory for specific tasks), it will be fine on anything.
The CPU doesn't matter much - I didn't gain anything from replacing the Celeron with a Tualation, and much less than expected from the 133 MHZ 2-2-2 Ram, at least regarding Scope itself.

The Intel 865 chipset with a P4 has become a synonym for workhorse here
highly recommanded if you have one around.

If you HAVE TO buy a new mobo/cpu ANYWAY, then of course the CoreDuos are much more attractive and simply have the better bang for the buck - as usual just avoid the top 'clock' rated thing (unless you need the brag-factor...)

The Core 2 Duo actually is an extension of the Tualitin, and the Pentium M. I have a friend who just bought another brand new Supermicro / P3 Tualitin 1.4 GHz 512 L2 cache combo. His SFP DAW only runs Scope, and external FX. He uses it 24 / 7 in his studio. 3 x 6 DSP Type II's too. He won't even buy the Core 2 Duo yet. So if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

A 6DSP card is 2nd generation isn't it? Sure you are not referring to 1st generation 4DSP cards x 3? (Pulsar cards were 4DSP then Pulsar2 were 6DSP). This Type I and Type II thang is starting to confuse me.
