Oberheim Matrix 12 w/ XPander

Post by dawman »

Well it's 2 years now that I have been using Scope. The Oberheims had a proper burial in my Project Studio @ home, but I regretfully replied they had no equal, until recent experiments negated that statement.

The truth is that they have been surpassed by using John Bowens Solaris 4.1 w/ Pro Wave, and the Studio Electronics SE-1x. As much as I hate to admit the 10000 USD cost back in the late '80's 4 these FAT BASTARDS, compared to the total cost of Zarg's synths and the SE-1x, which was 975 USD !!

I have routed them into the STM1632 and added FX for sweetening them, actually taming is a better word, as they have such a strong output. The Zarg's, and SE-1x have won the day. Through months of programming I have forged their sound sound in the fires of my will, and they actually can re-do the PPG's, D50 series, Prophet VS, and creations never heard from any analog.

No longer will I complain that Scope synths lack anything in regards to sound. However, I still require the mono SE-1x for the fat unclean low end and mono capabilities that virtual synths cannot reproduce IMHO. So now that all bases have been covered, let the battles begin.

I am currently doing a tribute to the 70's, and '80's w/ a cover band that freaks when they hear this rig @ rehersals. We are doing ELP, Yes, Styx, Allman Brothers, Thomas Dolby, and even the Who. These were such awesome sounding bands back then that I get goose bumps playing and sounding as they did.

So anyone doubting our platforms sound quality should hear, better yet feel the SPL's that spew forth from my rotary cabinet, and dual 8" Barbetta's, w/ stereo subs. I guaranfuckintee there are no equals.

Scope Rules Period !!

you're not talking about the Electric Light Orchestra, by any chance? :)

[joke mode on]

If you are planning to throw them out of the window, please call me with a sufficient aware :-P

Seriously, the things you are telling sound a bit strong to me... Are you sure? I never own such a big analog synth, but I suppose that at least from the point of view of the handling, a real analog with lots of knobs and sliders (not limited in resolution by 127 steps) is much better...
Welcome to the dawning of a new empire

I lost my management and road crew a year and a half ago. I have been in the studio and on the road since 1975. I always had the road crew and mighty beasts such as the Hammond B3 w/ 2 x 147 Leslies, Yamana CP-88, Helpinstill Upright Piano, Onerheim Matrix 12 / Xpander combo, Yamaha CS80, ARP Sting Ensemble, Hohner D6 Clavinet, and the Lab Series II Moog Synth Amp w/ outboard hardware FX such as the Lexicon PCM70, PCM 41 & 42, Prime Time, PCM91, and the Roland Space Echo.

I realised that the my road touring days were numbered, as I grew weary of traveling 6 to 8 months a year playing music I cared little about. I then realised that Scope might cover the hardware that I was to part with, and indeed it has. It took a little time and help from forum members to get things dialed in, but I now have a similar rig that sounds in some cases even better. Unfortunately the rotary cabinets can not be emulated, so I still use a solution from Motion-Sound that works as good, the Pro 3t. But in my quest 4 perfection I have built a giant beast of a rig and still have to carry it around, as my recovery from surgery ( hernia ) has demonstrated. But it is worth the pain and cash I have spent.

I use 3 x 88 note controllers w/ vast amounts of knobs, toggles, and sliders. But can achieve everything my hardware did, plus more. Lifting everything is a major drag, but once the rig starts up and the cabinets spin, and the speakers spew forth their mighty sounds, it's a small price to pay to have this kind of power at my fingertips.
