really nice one.
but i face a small prob.
using conroe 6600 and acpi it is not possible to set irqs manually.
in this mobo there are 2 pci slots and one of them shares with ichr8 controller.
my scope and puslar2 that are installed have different irqs. but i wish i could make them to have the same irq.

i suspect that some of my little problems that happen are caused because of that irq sharring of the pulsar2 with ichr8.
cset ini by default says scope board0 and pulsar2 board1, the same shows the dsp meter BUT the dsps count 1st the pulsar2 and 2nd the scope board.
sometimes when hd drive loading there are some disturbs(clicks and pauses) in scopes loading activities. it did not happen in standard pc and older mobos.

is there a way to bypass bios standard irq settings in acpi?

install in standard pc mode instead of acpi or change mobo to some more versatile one...
...sorry I had also this kind of problem with my mobo (intel d945pvs) which shared irq of scope card with usb, I searched everywhere on the net for something to change irq settings, but it seems that xp doesn't permits it at all.
Plus bios settings are unuseful, 'cause xp in acpi mode overrides them, they're useful only in standard pc mode.
I solved changing pci slot, for my mobo has 4 pci slots.
Tried also a fresh acpi xp install, but windows reassigned irqs the same stupid way, leaving some ids completely unused and other ones shared among 4 or 5 peripherals.
On the net you'll probably find some articles from M$ about this wonderful, exciting and spectacular new HAL of WinXP...

thanks fede but the reason why irqs is set in that way is because of hardsware desing of the mobos.
in dq6 for example that pci slot that has the same irq with ichr8 will stay like that nomatter what.
in fact i ask if there is a tool beyond bios normal settings, bios rom or whatever that might enable us users to set irqs from the start. as possible as can be.

probably that tool is called soldering iron and I'm afraid you'd have to physically remove the device (or disable it) to sort things the way you like them

Yes, some irqs depend on motherboard design, thy're grouped "electrically".
On the manual of the motherboard there should be written which slots are shared with which onboard peripheral, have you checked this?

Have you tried the CTRL+F1 function that allows you to control the irq asignement within the bios session ? I am sure this fucntion exists but it needs the CTRL+F1 trick to enter this section (it is an hidden section for overclocking etc...) . Does it work? I mean, i have seen screen copies of the bios that shows you can specify the irq of each pci slot .... Tell us if it is ok.
