Hi,
I have my gaphics & multimedia applications like the Adobes & Macromedias installed on the same computer as my music applications.
Will this affect the performance of my music system? if so, in what way?
I am running Giga160 & Nuendo2 on the same machine (P4/3GHz/3GB RAM) with tons of plugins installed too.
Thanks.
hc.
Many apps vs performance.
I do graphic design freelance to make a living, and use all my audio applications as well. The only stuff from Adobe that runs in the background that I'm aware of is the Adobe Gamma loader. Personally I use Microsoft's recent tool for OS-based color management , as well as the tools in the graphics card drivers. I was unsure as to whether Adobe Gamma loader was using the cpu to adjust runtime gamma.
Other than that and needing to defragment with a large number of apps installed, I really don't see any issues these days. In NT4 and even win2k I would run multiple boot profiles (different hardware sets and different users with different applications) but I have no issues these days doing graphics work for an hour, closing all applications and firing up some audio stuff. If you're paranoid you can log out & back in and 'clear' userspace memory for that added few MB.
However GIgastudio might be a bit more finicky than the apps I use, I'm not a user of that so i can't offer help there.
