Hey, the mod matrix seems to have a "bug" in 6->6 point
John, any chance to have something like NI FM7 that can import sysex from Yamaha DX7?
Maybe an external standalone app that recognize sysex and write to scope standard preset file...
Too much pretentious???
Is my old dream to have a DX7 in my scope system... FM7 is good but sounds like a toy compared to DX7 D/A outputs.
The sysex collection of DX7 could be a infinite source for your new synth.
Anyway, John, all that I can say now is: Wow!

4PC + Scope 5.0 + no more Xite + 2xScope Pro + 6xPulsarII + 2xLunaII + SDK + a lot of devices (Flexor III & Solaris 4.1 etc.) + Plugiator.

Just for the record, it wasn't us!!On 2006-10-16 11:47, johnbowen wrote:
I've got a new project in the works, but I've decided to remove the screenshot I had here earlier, as I was getting some unsolicited suggestions about the graphics for the surface, and it could be a potential problem if this type of thing were to continue.
Just wanted to clear that up!

imho an important port - independant from the fact that it reperesents my own opinion perfectlyOn 2006-10-16 14:57, erminardi wrote:

I'm always amazed about the range of sounds possible when browsing the old DX presets.
A six-op-strictly-compatible-mode would be boring regarding the techie motivation, yet I guess it would turn (many of) the 'old' presets into a (very) new context.
FM is a pretty sensible thing, so it's almost certain that none of the existing presets will sound identical.
And it should be emphasized (somewhere in big letters) that your project is NOT a DX replica attempt.
But there is so much essence in the existing library that it would be foolish to ignore such a (public domain) treasure.
I don't want to promise too much here, but since it's first of all a data(base) managing problem I may have a peek how the defining parameters could be translated to some readable form outside of Yamaha sysex.
I have the some 13k (or so) 'standard' collection that's usually distributed via the net.
It may be considered as an add-on functionality, as I will most certainly not have the time to do it within next month.
But since something like this has been on my mind anyway (for the my TX7 and TX802) and it's a great exercise (in some wider context), there's some motivation to do it.
I don't know the structure of an SFP preset file, but at some fixed (identifiable) position the values for dials etc have to be stored, don't they ?
Consider each OP a dial(value) then the translation doesn't look that difficult - imho.
[add]
nonsense - all scrambled

cheers, Tom

I think that the presets collection could be almost the 50% of the value of any good synthesizer.
Not all musicians are patient and/or good patch programmer, and the experts can rely on a good start point for experimentation.
The potential of this new synth is very huge, I just hope that John will involve a lot of good sound designers/beta testers for an exaustive patch collection.
Also for a good looking & exciting interface...stardust is on line?

I would realy like to see this synth having the same pitch manipulation as the FM7.
I use the FM7 alot for the sole purpose of its pitch adjustments which allows me to create different Middle-East, Arab.. scales.
I've suggested in the Dev. wish list many times about developing a device for microtuning any of CW synths but I guess its not a popular demand.
I hate not being able to apply CW synths in some projects because no microtonic scales are possible.
So I compramise CW synths for vst synths because microtuning is possible.
If it is possible to include microtuning please do.
