I've finally decided to change to OSX on my main mac, the G4 MDD dual 1,25.
Both Creamware cards will settle then in my older G4/733.
The Pulsar2 offers one ADAT I/O interface, the XTC board just adds DSP's.
I must account on a second ADAT interface, f.e. by adding another Pulsar2 or SRB card.
I checked the alternatives of the RME cards offering an ADAT interface.
Prices are streetprices:
There's the
- RME HDSP 9632 (1*ADAT, 1*MIDI) €400,-
- RME HDSP LE 9636 (2*ADAT, no MIDI) €200,-
- RME HDSP 9652 (3*ADAT, 2*MIDI) €500,-
I want 2 times ADAT, so looking at the picture, the choice is depending from the MIDI setup.
So my question is, what's the best way to route the midi in my studio:
external Midi--->Pulsar2 (old mac OS9)--->RME interface (new mac OSX)--->Cubase LE--->back to SFP (old mac)
or...
external Midi--->RME interface (new mac OSX)--->Cubase LE--->SFP (old mac OS9).
In both cases I will need a MIDI interface on the ADAT interface card.
Unless... I would use some FW system link solution, transporting Midi (?).
I'd say the best is putting the external MIDI stuf on the RME interface in the OSX mac.
This allows playing midi in Cubase without starting up the OS9 mac with the Creamware cards...
Hm, too complex for the moment, it's deep night here, and too less knowledge of the various solutions...
Any contributions to and experiences on the subject are welcom.
cheers.
