So I am getting one as well. The idea is to take scope on stage one day, so stability is an issue.

Firewire would be nice too, anybody here have the D856PERLX ? Its supposed to have firewire onboard.

If I dont here any bad stories about the firewire version of the mainboard I'll get that one!

GaryB pulled out my overbloated Supermicro P4SCT+II, and put in a D856PERL. At first I was shocked, for I paid 280 USD 4 it, and thought because the SATA controller from Marvell was run on the PCI-X buss, not PCI-e, that SFP would be fine on the 32 bit buss, and giga 's audio would go through the PCI-X buss. Turns out that all that fancy shit just isn't needed. Just more turns in the pipe which clogs up the water. I play live all day in studios, and matinee gigs, go eat and play for the dancing ho's here in Las Vegas. I can say that dog will hunt. Never once has it even coughed. If it would, I would dump it in a minute, and drag my Oberheims out of retirement. But this dog has hunted all year, and will continue to hunt as a SFP DAW w/ custom FOH / Monitor solution while I enjoy another SFP DAW with the Intel Conroe/ 965 combo for the synth from hell. Gary's word is as good as gold on these matters.

its a pain finding one. I found one used, maybe I will get that. But its without firewire.

All other dealers are telling me they no longer have it.

Any online stores I can check ?

Don't hold you breath on that idea. Check on Pricewatch.com. Or get the new Intel DP965LT w/ the cheap NVidia PCI-e video card, and the cheap OCZ PC2 RAM, and the cheapest Core 2 Duo CPU, the E6600. That is an inexpensive SFP set up which can be upgraded later when prices drop. This set up works well with Giga/SFP, and the VST Host and dual core work will be completed next week. I will then be able to run full masterverb pro testing, and IR1 testing w/ VST stuff, so I can post all results in the Conroe Thread here at the Z. As of now I only had a compatability test w/ SFP done. The E6600 runs as strong as the P4 3.0GHz. Quite a leap forward 4 Intel in terms of technology.

Yes,
I was using two for two USB controllers from M Audio 4 live SFP / Giga work. I disable them in the device manager and just use the USB to light up and power the controllers, then I send all info thru MIDI as USB for the power only is good 4 me. I hate wall warts and refuse to have them onstage.

yes, usb works.
typically on that mobo you must disable 1 or two of the 4 usb controllers in the device manager because of irq sharing, but all the ports still work normally after, so not an issue.
