Before I dive into dual core head first, I was remembering the Dual Opterons, and Xeon DAW's in cubase.net forums. Guys were speaking of 25% increase only, but the GUI was smoother, blah, blah, blah. I still am not sure about how dual core will balance it's consumption. I could care less about multitasking, but was wondering how EnergyXT, and VSTi's would be balanced out. Does the O.S. give you choices on placement, or does it do it 4 you? Ideally I would like EnergyXT on core 1, and VSTi's on core 2. Is this option available with XP Pro, and Intel dual core D950 CPU?

TIA,

you can set affinity in the task manager(cntrl-alt-del), otherwise it's automatic.

Hey, don't forget to give us your reports: can you do ASIO at low latency, with a fairly high CPU load, with Scope synths loaded (STS too?), and no glitches? I'm waiting to hear all!

Good luck with your new system,

Shayne

Glad to help my fellow pulasrian from Santa Rosa, CA. You have given us a lot of good SDK freebies, so your wish is my command.

I will be using SFP synths only no STS as I have GS3 which I will upgrade to GVI as soon as ta'SCAM' release's it. And they better not fuck me like they did with the GS3, as it still doesn't work with TC Powwercore, and several other VST FX which I spent a ton of cash on.

I think I'm right in saying that code needs to be specifically compiled to take full advantage of a dual-processor system.

To be honest, I don't personally bother with > 1 CPU or enormous GHz's of CPU speed.

What you really need for a good system is as much fast RAM as you can fit and a fast HDD. Having a decent MOBO (well implemented bridges) helps no end too. I/O is where the bottleneck is likely to exist on any system, not in core CPU processing power.
