Hi, i bought the Multiface and A16 and looking for the best way to work with both of them on the same computer. I was wondering if it's possible to connect the multiface as the soundcard and the A16 to the multiface ADAT and work with 8 i/o (out of the 16) of the A16 as if they were more inputs of the RME. I mean, can i work with TotalMix and all the RME mixer features and control my A16 i/o by it?
if it's possible to connect the A16 to and from the RME, do i also need to connect it by ADAT Sync, Word Clock, or anything like that apart from the ADAT cables?
Thanks!!

just connect it and set the A16 to slave.
9-pin Adat sync and external wordclock have different purpose and are not required in this context.

thanks Tom,
so this way the primary sound card is the RME and the a16 appears as an extension of it?
and how do i set the a16 as a slave?
i have another RME sound card on another computer, this card has only a few ADAT i/o, i thought to use the 8 remaining i/o of the A16 with this computer (by connecting secondary ADAT i/o of the A16 to the other RME). If the A16 is set to Slave, will it work on the other computer as well?
Thanks

the Sugarbabes' way: push the button...

no, it wouldn't
that's what the wordclock BNC connector is for: to supply several digital devices with one clock via a dedicated hi-quality device.

honestly, I'd only consider the A16U if it's connect via ZLink to a whatsoever Scope card - SFP is a benefit for any system imho.
Otherwise you'd be better of with two 8-channel Adat IO devices.
I've read that even the rock-bottom ones are said to be pretty good.

You can get a "Scope Home" (used to be known as Creamware Luna2) for fairly cheap, especially if you can find one secondhand. The power of the card is limited but it will make connecting the a16u and RME a lot easier, although it will probably add a few samples of overhead over a direct adat connection between the two. The upshot is that you get vastly expanded routing and some effects & synthesis to explore as well, and should you find you like the DSP power the Creamware cards are quite easy to expand (designed for up to 3 cards in a system that's capable of handling it).

Otherwise its perhaps better to return the a16u and get dedicated ADAT converters, as the above post suggests. The power in Creamware gear lies in its dsp and owning an a16u to only use half of it seems a waste.
