Looking to get a nice quiet socket 478 cpu fan. The stock one is unbearable at this point.
Any recommendations?
Pentium 4 3.2
asus p4c-800 deluxe
3 gig ram
vantec ion 2 350 watt power supply
Im not doing any intense video, only audio.. so I doubt I would need any fancy fan controller. Just a solid, quiet fan, without all the bells and whistles. I dont mind paying for quality.
Ive never replaced one before, so anyone that might be able to give me any recommendations, would be much appreciated.
thanx

I am looking for a good(quiet) socket 478 cpu fan
both of those look like great choices as long as the computer is STATIONARY. the stock fan is very well attached on 478 cpus. if the computer is any way portable it won't break loose like those other top heavy coolers(seen it a couple of times). is there dust in the fan or on the cooler? that would make it really noisy....

Get tooled up properly before doing anything. You'll probably want an appropriately sized flathead screwdriver. On one side of the cooler you'll see a clip mechanism. You need to carefully locate the screwdriver into the clip, push the clip down & then away from the cooler to release it from the CPU socket. Be very careful doing this, as depending on your mobo, there may be components nearby (which you *do not* want to damage) Some mobos orientate the socket clips to face the PSU which can make it very difficult or even impossible to take the CPU fan out without removing the PSU ... no big deal, but worth bearing in mind before struggling in a stupidly confined space.
