Motherboard/CPU recommendations?

Hi!
I'm considering getting more CPU power and after browsing quickly through some topics here, it seems I should be careful with what I choose.

I have two cards, one Pulsar 1 and one Luna Powersampler (same as Scope Home cards, I think). I'm running Scope 4.5, but I guess the driver is the same as previous versions.

I was thinking maybe getting a motherboard with AMD X2 CPU, but maybe that's a bad idea? Is dual CPU stuff causing problems for SFP/Scope?

When it comes to motherboard I want one without fan on the chipset, and I don't need SATA2. I know Asus and Abit from previous encounters, and they worked well ...

Any suggestion on stuff you _know_ works?

You might want to look on the Intel side for dual-core. Their CPUs are a bit on the mad-heat/inefficient side, but their chipsets seems to be much more stable and efficient right now.

If you can track down an nForce3 board that does dual-core, then it might be interesting, yeah. Some people seem to have gotten it to work fine with Scope. I certainly love my single-core AMD64/nForce3 setup.

As far as chipset-heatsink goes, there are heatsink/low-noise fan replacements available from companies like Zalmann, so even if you buy something that's has active cooling, it's something you can generally change.

The chipset is the real issue, not the dual core or not. I'm told the Intel CPU's really heats up the system and that AMD is not too bad. I don't want extra fans and stuff, I just want a pretty silent PC.

The new IntelÂ® Coreâ„¢ Duo processor is supposed to be quiet and produce a lot less heat than their other processors ,with equal power. Can be used in desktop as well as laptop computers. Might be well suited for music applications?.
