i used to be on standard pc.
without formatting i have installed xp by choosing repair and this time i left it on acpi mode.
now i am on acpi.
is this the same with formatting and insalling acpi from clean install?
it doesn't seem to have any problems but i wonder if there is something i miss

Obviously it's not the same as formatting and clean install, but then if it works ok and your system seems stable, then why change it .I've got a pulsar2 srb+pulsar 2 classic+luna 2 and apart from having to find the right pci slot which doesn't interfere with the graphics card it's fine in acpi mode.

Rough rule-of-thumb:

Windows 2000, slightly older MOBO (e.g. no APIC )- use standard PC installation.

XP, modern MOBO (APIC) - use ACPI installation.
