Hello,

I run my music machine on XP Pro with SP1. Are there issues with installing SP 2? I remember reading a while ago that some people had issues which is why I kept my machine running SP 1 only. I realise that SP 2 are basically just security related with regards to being on internet, but seeing my music machine is not connected to internet I thought I don't need it.

But, the problem is I bought Adobe Audition version 2 and it says on the box that I need SP 2 as a requirement. Do you think it will work with SP 1? Should I upgrade to SP 2?

Thanks and sorry if the question appears to be banal.

Yep, agreed & you can easily cut it right back (if you're careful) by switching off all networking & internet functions completely Be careful about it, but essentially it's safe to completely disable every 'service' that you don't want in XP

If you don't need networking & internet, don't have your system even capable of it!

etc, etc, etc .... (4 dots for a laugh)

sp2 is no problem. it's not nessessary to strip the os to the bone to get reliable operation. in fact, if you don't know what you're doing and why, a less tweaked system might work much better. the main thing is to turn off the visual accents, system restore, remote assistance, and automatic updates. turn off all the power management features as well(choose always on). if you don't use that machine for surfing(don't), you'll likely never need to visit windows update. sp2 will complain that automatic updates etc are off, just open the warning message choose "change the way windows alerts me", and then uncheck everything. this will make sp2 invisible.

Thanks GaryB for the tip on switching off "automatic updates message" (and the other tips) it was beginning to annoy me.
